Did a little digging, it looks to be one of those false stories people write as if legit (but never label them as satire), then laugh if outlets actually pick them up.

There's the beauty, fake or not, the newspaper article looks real enough for most people. And the newspaper does exist. Hell, I could even make up a Twitter account claiming to be the friend in the article and elaborate on how it exactly went down.
