Le Pen is also a socialist.

Indeed. It is all about context.

Le Pen was a crappy candidate.

Lol the French polls were farther off than the US/Brexit polls, just in the other direction (and with margins so big it didn't matter)

So, Mrs. Merkel will continue to control France. At least there will probably be some good meth parties at the palace. Macron likes to party so I read.

Well, guess the only way I get to see France is when I get deployed there to fight ISIS.

I say this because my assumption is that france will be considered part of the ME in a year or two.

I haven't been keeping up thoroughly - is Macron a bad pick or something?
The Putinistas are melting, but that is all. She was basically anti-everything France has done for the last hundred years.

Agree. Le Pen emerges stronger going forward, despite today's outcome. They've gone from fringe to 35%.

While a lot of people will focus on the refugees with Le Pen, she also supported the nationalization of various industries and a 75% tax on incomes above 100k euros.

Macron is actually to the right of her on economics.

Also she held a bunch of other completely bullshite positions.

Macron is an Obama/Clinton-type liberal, not a socialist.

France needs someone who cares about it's national identity. Nothing matters as much as that.
