Its a fix that no one wants to admit to out loud. To do so admits the fact that this has been a proxy war that is only being kept at a stalemate because the US wants it to be that way.
You tell Putin that the US will allow Ukraine to use all of the weapons we have provided to them to be used within Russia. By doing that, Ukraine will then be able to attack Moscow and cripple all oil production in Russia by destroying its refining capabilities. Doing so would lead to the toppling of Putin. You then tell Zelensky that when Russia comes to negotiate you do so in good faith and be willing to actually bargain for a solution or the US will cut off all military aid.
Both sides will then come to a solution because in the end neither has a choice.
