One side keeps going into the talks believing they have leverage. They don’t.

Any traction made by Trump is quickly undermined by that sawed off manlet in Kyiv and his EU/NATO bosses.

In a war that was of deliberate Western instigation, Russia is the problem? .... then you are the patsy.

I believe that Putin is agreeing to the Security Agreements laid out for Ukraine in the Istanbul Treaty. Both Russia and Ukraine agreed to those then. Those were multilateral and included many nations but had no enforcement mechanisms for Ukraine.

Putin is never going to agree to NATO troops in Ukraine on a Article 5 type standing.

If pipeline news is true, I doubt Putin is coming back to the table anytime soon.

Thanks spooks.

When the deal is made you’ll run and hide like a bitch just like you did when Ron got stomped in the primaries

Shelling predominantly ethnic Russian areas in the Donbas. Twice violating the Minsk Accords, which was a BS ruse to allow Ukraine to rearm. Even Merkel said as much.

You can throw Obammy in there too.

This has been building since the fall of the Iron Curtain. NATO's eastward expansion was always going to end in conflict. Just like Taiwan will always end in conflict if the west decides to oppose China there. Just like Canada and Mexico will always cause conflict if they decide to join forces opposed to the US. Our choice is to accept that reality and end that NATO expansion, or live with the catastrophic consequences of global warfare.

All trump has to do is cut the money and military help off. How hard is that?

I still don't really think a deal gets done, but I was never going to be that easy. We're months and a few more tries away at best.

I guess Putin is going to test Trump to see how far he'll let it go.

The Russian Empire and many of the citizenry is genetically predisposed to paranoia of being overrun by their enemies. They are a culture of war, they sacrificed 20-30 million in the WWII meat grinder. If not for the Soviets/Russia, Hitler may have change the course of history, that most could not understand.

What I'm saying is the Russians will sacrifice whatever they deem necessary to preserve their culture and Mother Russia. I'm not saying they'll totally suicidal but damn near.

Trump said on multiple occasions he would have this war settled before he even took office. Seven months later it’s still not resolved.

Ya don't say????? So long as he is not losing, he has no real incentive to genuinely negotiate other than to see how much we (the US) are willing to give up on Ukraine's behalf

NATO-style security guarantee for Ukraine

Putin was never going to accept that. Ukraine being a NATO member was always a red line for Russia. Why would he agree to a deal that basically protects Ukraine like a member?

What a novel response. No one here has ever heard that point before.
