Western security is one of the sticking points. He'll nix any deal that even implies any type of basic infrastructure that would be in place if hostilities were to start again. I would not be surprised if Putin is pushing for veto power over arms purchases for Ukraine or any integration with western militaries

Maybe there is an upside to sanctions that I'm not aware of but they have always seemed like a really bad idea to me. Weaponizing a currency that is held up by 27 trillion in debt seems..... unwise. They probably wouldn't have joined BRICS had we not basically forced them to.
I don't understand the economics at work but sanctions seem like they'd be detrimental to us as well (in other ways than harming the USDs status as reserve currency).

Nah. No one in Europe really wants to frick with Russia and Russia doesn’t want to frick with Europe. It’s actually a great deal.
