So, we can now expect prices to come down, dramatically, right?
Because tariff claims for why thing were so expensive were pretty common by companies.
Well?
You realize that even if the prices don't come down because the tariffs established a new demand curve that companies choose to exploit by maintaining artificially high prices, that's still a negative effect of the tariffs, right?

is this some of that 3d chess BS?
Its some sort of thing presidents have done throughout history. It's why the court exists, or used to before they became a secondary branch of the legislature.

This stuff used to be called government just doing its thing. Now every ruling, announcement, policy suggestion, etc. is either a massive win, massive loss, conspiracy or attempt at authoritarianism/communism/facism, whatever, depending on what you predicted or hoped for.
Everyone needs politics to be a drama series these days.
Because populism. And social media.

He is surrounded by Howard Lutnik.

And in doing so, as opposed to simply enacting the tariffs legally, he gained what?
What did YOU gain? Seriously ask the question. Why would he try this when he has proven methods that he could have used.
Do you seriously believe he is that stupid? It's not like we have seen him play these kind of things almost monthly.

Sad day for people who wanted future Dem Presidents to enact tariffs due to climate change
This has always been my small amount of trepidation with this kind of stuff, or the expansion of Executive Power in general.
Once its expanded its hard to contract it, and there will be a time when the Dems are in control again. And when they are in power, they don't pussyfoot around. They go all in

They only struck down the emergency economics power act. Bessent already said they will move the tariffs to one of the other acts and keep on using them
This is what I expected the strategy to be.
Keep doing it and keep letting it wind through the Courts for years

There's no shot you're trying to retcon the goal of the tariffs to be "Trump was ensuring the executive branch didn't have too much power by forcing SCOTUS to rule"

I blame the GOTV efforts that began in their current extreme form during Obama. We have literal morons opining on and following politics now. And voting, unfortunately. That doesn't do anyone any good except people who need morons to enact their agenda.

True.

It just failed to expand the executive power.
And that does what to the future presidents who want to use that authority?

No, but I believe he lacks patience for legal nuance, and five years of forced/rushed/ill-advised policies being whacked by the courts simply because they didn’t check the right legal boxes is proof of that.

The President is only executing laws that were passed by Congress already to levy tariffs.
Congress passes legislation executive branch carries out the legislation. If Congress doesnt want Trump to use already passed legislation to levy tariffs, than they should repeal that legislation.
