no one who asks or supports this goes to Wednesday prayer meeting or Thursday choir practice.

Preachers would typically stay at one Church for only a few years before they were moved to another. Don't practice that as much anymore but by providing a parsonage over their career, retiring preachers and family find themselves in a pinch at retirement with no home equity. They often end up renting if they didn't do a whole lot of planning over the years. Removing 501(c)3 status from Churches would be devastating. Seems to me it would be better to get those 50% that pay no income tax to do so. Tax revenue from taxing churches would be miniscule compared to getting the other 50% paying taxes.
So Jesse is provided that benefit by the church and then pays taxes on the benefit.

You sound a lot like Lenin. Why would anyone be in favor of more theft? We should want less people paying taxes and the gment having a smaller budget. Our taxes will never cover the budget again, taxes are just a power move now. Placing the government over the Lord in in the societal heirarchy normally leads to alot of death.

I have already paid taxes on the money I tithe.

How much untaxed property do you think churches own in the US?

people that favor taxing the churches are probably good with forgiving student loans.

You sound a bit like you’re against a church helping someone with their housing in this post.

Why shouldn’t they be taxed for the same things other property owners/utility users/businesses are?
I’m not in favor of property tax exemptions for any entity that owns property. It should be applied across the board, or not at all.

Honestly, does anything stick out about Goodwill? $646M for salaries and other operating expenses sounds pretty reasonable for an organization that big.

Don't forget mosques, synagogues, and other religions you bigot.
Generally I would say no because we as a people are already over taxed. The only version I could somewhat support is if the place of worship pulled in more than 1 million annually. Even that is a slippery slope because the government always comes for more. I'm fine with taxing the Joel Osteen and other mega churches that are barely even Christianity. Catholic church also runs like a business. But the little one off small churches should not be touched. They barely survive as it is.
