The have satellites to take the same pictures the balloon would take.

It would not surprise me at all if the thing was a weather balloon. We destroyed it, so whatever they want to claim, they can.

But assuming the antithetical "spy balloon" contention is accurate, it could be gathering anything from telecommunications, to atmospheric data, to imagery. The latter could be different than satellite collections in that we know exactly when satellites pass over. The balloon theoretically could remain in a location much longer, or more randomly pass a spy target.

If it was a deliberate violation of airspace, it ain't a nothing burger. E.g., Perhaps its "mission" was to assess jamming capacity.

If these balloons are cheap enough they could launch thousands simultaneously with many dummies sending us on a wild goose chase to neutralize the real payloads

Probably to get closer than a satellite so the LiDAR will be able to work better on silos.

To show more proof that they can walk all over this country, Pudding Joe, and his dog shite administration, which of course worked.

We have our own spy satellites. Once the thing approached North America it would have been radar tracked.

China knows that we have a mentally retarded president.

You spelled "paid for and compromised president" wrong! I'm just wondering if Xi actually made the call to Biden to let him know it was okay to shoot the balloon down since they had all of the data they needed. "Hey Joe, we got everything we need, be a hero and tell them to "shoot it down"."
