The Madrid rail bombings. They’re afraid of that happening again or something far worse. Which should provide some clarity as to who they’ve allowed into their country if they are even remotely introspective.

Perhaps I show my ignorance, but do we actually need any Spanish bases for our operations?

I was sent to Moron AB during the first gulf war. I was a crew chief on the KC-10 (tanker/cargo plane). Spain didn’t allow the fighters or bombers to operate out of moron until after the war started. If you remember history I believe Spain stayed out of WWII.

Not true

quote:

MADRID, March 2 (Reuters) US aircraft leave Spain after government says bases cannot be used for Iran attacks- Fifteen U.S. aircraft have left the Rota and Moron military bases in southern Spain since the U.S. and Israel launched weekend attacks on Iran, maps by flight tracking website FlightRadar24 showed on Monday.
quote:

Britain had also initially refused to allow the use of its bases for an attack on Iran, but on Sunday Prime Minister Keir Starmer authorised their use for "collective self-defence".

Britain also tried it
