Then you're probably not bullshitting

Seriously, email the department chair and copy the teacher on it.

Suspending teacher's salaries at the end of the current school year,

Are you serious? Your statement answers your own question. Why not suspend pay at the “end” of the current year?

Why would they do this? Students are still required to do their work, check in ... so how do you think this work is provided to them, or if there are issues, who addresses these?

There will be a huge reduction in teachers as now districts are realizing they can be more effective fiscally with Tele services. You’ll see Intervention and paraprofessional positions slashed

They will slash regular classroom teachers before the others (but I don’t think that’s particularly close to happening). You can’t slash those positions because of the legalities associated with special education services which those individuals as a key part of.

Because teachers choose to receive their salary over 12 months. Some take it over 9, the working months, but most do not. So it's essentially back pay that is owed to them.

I believe you are severely underestimating the power of the teachers’ union

I’m not in a teachers union. The only 2 unions close to me are Oklahoma and Little Rock. And the Oklahoma union basically shot their wad last year with the strike. They were right on their grievances but they handled it poorly. Oklahoma doesn’t use days they use minutes to count school years

My district is thinking of going 4 day weeks to save costs as it’s Title 1 and less than 2k in the town. I was surprised we didn’t do it this year. Our secretaries in the 2 schools are being able to work from home, just have to be on campus 1 time a week so will be interesting to see the budget next year. As the town is dying I believe.

They don’t get paid for 12 months, they get paid for the school year and their pay is broken down into 12 checks, so idk what you mean by “suspend those summer checks.” Most of them are working right now anyway.

disagree with your premise but agree that they should be run like private schools. Locally the private schools have innovated and are providing a high level of education despite the circumstances. Public schools have done a terrible job bc they know they can complain and they’ll get paid anyway. Private schools have to work hard to maintain an attendance. That being said I think public schools should be held accountable to maintain their pay. If they don’t then they can’t get paid for nothing just like the rest of us.
you must be talking about Louisiana, because in my state we’ve had lesson plans online via see-saw, zoom meetings with teachers and curriculum via other apps hasn’t skipped a beat. That started 3 weeks ago.

The US is ranked about ~25 in the world in education.

frick Teachers, most are commies/marxist.

They only work like 60% of what a normal full time employees works.

They are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over paid. In our state I can look up any OHIO govt employee's wages and trust me I have seen what they make, it's disgusting.

Teachers don't get paid during the summer. The salary is for actual days of work. Most school systems allow teachers the choice of only getting paid for 9.5/10 months or have some cash deferred into a savings account to be given during the summer.

Now, in La, there are too many factors to determine a sweeping non payment for March 16- May whatever. AP teachers are still teaching. Online schools like mine are still teaching. Some parishes have teachers working on real content. Some do not. How do you propose making a decision about whom to pay and whom not to pay?

Our school gave my children two weeks of busy work three weeks ago and I haven’t heard back reference new assignments. We tried to reach out to one of my daughter’s teachers for clarification on an assignment and she didn’t return the text or our voice mail. I don’t see where they are “working” any.

Sounds like a crappy school district.

First of all those summer checks are by design . They could get all monies during a 9 month period if desired . But since kids are out of school 3 months basically most opt for a 12 month plan as not to have some income while they are off work . Don’t be a idiot

I know an administrative employee working for the school system. When they are required to go to the office they get 1.5x hazard pay but the rest of the time they work from home.

Some of her co-workers are pissed they aren't getting the hazard pay even while at home Meanwhile tons of taxpayers are getting paycuts or even losing their jobs.

I've worked for the state too. It made me hate government even more than before.

I invite you to try substitute teaching for a while and see if that changes your opinion. I'm teaching as a second career and this is one of the most difficult (but rewarding) jobs I've had. Good teachers are not paid enough, but I would agree bad teachers are overpaid.

You understand that a South Korean doesn’t finish HS until around age 23? No of course you don’t. You don’t understand that using raw fake stats is dangerous. It’s how Carter got to start the worst Cabinet position ever.

It’s amazing how people spout education or other stats (look at Brees argument on MSB) without knowing g context or complete story.

Most kids in world are way older upon graduation from “school” than Americans
