Across the board tariffs is a daft idea and Trump knows it. He’s not an idiot. He will use the threat as a negotiating metric.

It’s amazing what Trump has accomplished in his short political career. When he ran in 2016 there was a consensus that China was our friend and partner. We were letting them setup Confucius Societies on our college campuses. We were outsourcing critical semiconductor industries to them. They were embedding spies in our congressmen’s inner circles.

Trump called them what they are - an enemy. His opponents castigated him, and then adopted his point of view.

Kamala is now calling for a wall on the southern border. So on immigration and China policy Trump has vanquished the field. His oft-criticized tariffs still stand after almost four years of opposition rule. Our NATO “allies” are now forking over hundreds of billions of dollars in military aid, just as Trump said they should.

Four more years of Trump will see a complete remodeling of our immigration policy, a renegotiation of our trade deals, even more shouldering of the military burden by our feckless allies, a continuation of the isolation of China, and a re-regulation of our food and pharma industries.

We just have to win.

THE solution Im urging caution

Absolutely.

Our elected leaders need to be smart about implementing all tax policy and it has to be objective. Not emotional.

See what people each politician surrounds themselves with. That's a good indication that they will implement tax policy to maximize good outcomes for the people. It they have a staff of econometricians, that's a good sign.

Then the costs of the tariffs need to come out of the Pentagon's budget
We are in deficit. Cost of carry for the debt now dictates we cannot solely cut the budget to attain balance. So revenue will have to pick up. How would you propose that occurs?

Why is the federal government so greedy?

Because there is no one standing between us and them to decrease spending.

Trump had his chance. Hearing him complain about inflation is fricking embarrassing as he had his hand in it.

I think the threat of tariffs and as a policy of last resort is good. A policy that is just Tariffs is bad. But I got a C- in World Eco.

Tariffs are taxes on consumers. Nothing more.
so what are the threat of tariffs, you know ... like the ones that caused Mexico to send troops to their side of the border despite sparking off a war with 2 cartels.

You still don't get it.

They spend because they can. There is one entity that allows this and it's not the American people. They just did a 0.5% rate cut which gives more space for spending.

Threats are worthless without the ability and desire to implement.

There is not a solution big enough to accomplish this.

We have to cut into the big programs (including the Pentagon's budget, so tariffs would be very disliked).

Military and entitlements.

Trumps own budgets he submitted were record breaking. He's no different than progressives.

Again I'm sharing information trying to point out some historical facts its not the direct criticism that all of you sensitive pussies act like The only conclusion I can take from that is you did not read or if you did do not understand the information

I understood tariffs and economics before you were born. But I don't post 300 word boring crap. So, I'll give you the short lesson:
1. Tariffs are not just a tax on a foreign country's goods. They are a THREAT. Do you understand how threats work? If China is sending millions of criminals across our border to bring us down then we can do 2 things:
a. Go to war with them.
b. Threaten to put tariffs on their stuff.
I prefer 'b.'

2. Tariffs are not on everything. We never use tariffs against products we can't produce ourselves economically. China produces canned tuna, sardines, etc. They sell for almost 10 cents a can less the other cans. I can afford 10 cents when we tax the crap. BTW, the labels on those cans are falsified by the Chinese. Their sodium content says: 'Zero'. Canned fish has LOTS of salt. They just lie.

Tariffs are a weapon that doesn't kill people. And if you think it will kill the economy then come back here after two years of Trump in office and tell me how the prices are doing.

Did they not teach economics in LA?

quote:

Without the division of labor and the trade based upon that division, the entire world would starve. Coerced restraints on trade—such as protectionism—cripple, hobble, and destroy trade, the source of life and prosperity. Protectionism is simply a plea that consumers, as well as general prosperity, be hurt so as to confer permanent special privilege upon groups of less efficient producers, at the expense of more competent firms and of consumers. But it is a peculiarly destructive kind of bailout, because it permanently shackles trade under the cloak of patriotism.

Tarrifs are the same as any other bailout.
