Boss sent out an meeting invite to DEI sensitivity training, to which I said I ain't going to that shite. I have a wife at home to remind me that every problem is my fault and I don't need a refresher course. Do I need to pack my shite?

He just shook his head and said I'll sign your name on the attendance roll.

Never heard another word about DEI.

I work for a very diverse organization. I had to attend diversity training with everyone. A black lady in the office mentioned how she sincerely hoped our organization would become more diverse and looked forward to it.

As I walked back to my office I passed the following peoples office(just going to give their sex and race/ethnicity/or country from where they came or their parents came):

An Iranian Male, a white female, a Filipino Male, a black female, an intern cube farm (2 Indian females, 1 white male, 1 black female), and another white female. I was the only white male on the hall in an office and the only native Georgian.

Getting more diverse, racially/ethnically would involve more white men. I don’t think that’s what they meant.

So have I. It’s simple, if you say “we need more diversity” then you mean less white men. That’s the bottom line of what is meant. No one ever wants to diversify an all black org, etc. When you eliminate one of the largest if not the largest pools of candidates for something (job, vp, etc) because of race/sex (white men) there is a better than average chance the candidate you pick isn’t the best (though they might be good enough). That’s just how numbers work. Pick from a smaller pool, can’t be sure you found the best.

You think the lowest earners in America are stealing all the white jobs?

I am a citizen of a country which has national elections coming up in a few months. One of the candidates for President is a fricking moron who can’t string together a coherent thought or sentence, but is a step away from one of the most powerful political positions in the world because she’s a woman and non-white.

No, I think that a percentage of jobs are being given to people who, though meeting minimum requirements, may not be the best candidates available. Because they automatically throw out applications from white men for that percentage of jobs.

I see it every day at the hospital level. Administrators who were abysmal at their jobs being promoted because they checked all the minority boxes but were dangerous to patients because of their incompetence. One minority female couldn’t insert an IV properly or manage more than one patient at a time while the other unlucky nurse on her shift had to absorb 8-10 patients. She was promoted to Hospital over-house and given a six figure salary. She nearly killed another patient by giving him too much insulin and the hospital was sued for an undisclosed amount. A white, male nurse would have been fired much less promoted

I knew a young white woman who told me that she was quitting her job and starting a new coffee shop to compete with Starbucks.
Me: 'What do you know about running a small business.'
Her: 'Not much but the govt has a program to underwrite the loan for women and minorities to start their own small business.'
I visited the place a month after it opened. I was the only customer. It shut down 3 months later. But she didn't lose any money. The tax players covered it.

t's about giving undeserving, underqualified people positions of higher authority and compensation because they look or act different, not because they earned it.

I won't argue deserved and undeserved that's for someone else to decide. I'm just a bum accountant.

I think the idea is that they want a blended mindset within companies. There are a lot of times that businesses may have 35% of Black customers walk in the door but 0 black employees working there. I am not saying there is anything wrong with this, but you are putting that 35% in a position. We all know that sometimes when different racial groups communicate things get lost in translation or aren't understood in the manner at which they were meant.

Also, we all think differently. I can tell you that the times I've been in CPE where we worked in groups, I always got more out of being in a group that was multi-racial and multi-sex.

The way we all think is very different.

While I think maybe the way we are going about it is wrong, I don't think the intentions are as bad as many make it to be.

I think so too. I don’t think every black person, white person, etc think like others in their race.

I am a southern white male, son of cotton mill workers. I understand and empathize with poor southern blacks better than someone like Kamala Harris or any wealthy person or black from California. I eat the same food, shop the same stores, went to the same schools, etc

You couldn’t be more wrong if you tried. I see it every day. If you think that’s bad, try this on for size: an undocumented immigrant can walk into the emergency room with no insurance and every test known to modern medicine will be implemented for essentially no charge. Another person with insurance who pays their bills can walk into the emergency room with the same symptoms and will be given the bare minimum for several co-pays and probably a deductible. I see it every night at work

DEI has been discussed on this board for years. It's not new to us, it's new to you. It stemmed from the completely racist "anti-racism" movement.

Prior to that, affirmative action did the same thing exactly.

You gotta love the Left. If you disagree with their policies, it’s not because they are ineffective. It’s because you are white and have privilege. Diversity is the key to success said no successful businessman ever

We had a customer that is a feeder plant manufacturing accessory products to Ford Motor Co. Our company is a woman-owned business and when we provided our legal documents and national certification to this feeder industry, Ford rejected us as a diversified supplier.

My sales rep. called Ford's Diversified Supplier Director to discuss our rejection, and this person rudely told her that (1) we were not with the right national organization and (2) we were not diverse enough!

Ford actually had employees who served on the board of the other national organization so that was the only certification they would recognize.

My sales rep. placed her call to this Diversity Director on Wednesday, Nov. 9th, 2016, which I told her was bad timing on her part.

Based on the diversity director's attitude, you could quickly tell that he was pissed Trump had won!

Correct. And if some of these folks are your friends and have more money than you somehow you are still very privileged if you disagree.

Its truly unbelievable.

Let's take that to the logical conclusion:

The US is approximately (this is fluid, so it may change):

62% White (Includes "White Hispanics")
12.4% Black
10.2% Multiracial (Includes "Hispanics")
6% Asian
1.1% Indigenous
8.4% Other

If the NBA, NFL, Hip Hop music industry and anyone else expect me to spend a dollar with them, I better see 62% of their participants be white like me.

Do you see how ridiculously racist that is?

Absolutely.

I dont agree with it hombre, but this is where we are, so I try to do the best within the confines I am given.

It's obviously a huge problem. ResumeBuilder.com did a survey of hiring managers in 2022 about this issue. LINK

quote:

To find out how many believe “reverse discrimination” is really an issue affecting their workplace, in November ResumeBuilder.com surveyed 1,000 hiring managers across the U.S.

Key findings include:

52% believe their company practices “reverse discrimination” in hiring
1 in 6 have been asked to deprioritize hiring white men
48% have been asked to prioritize diversity over qualifications
53% believe their job will be in danger if they don’t hire enough diverse employees
70% believe their company has DEI initiatives for appearances’ sake

Over 15% of hiring managers said they had specifically been asked to "deprioritize" hiring white men. This number is almost certainly higher now.

quote:

More than half of hiring managers whose companies have DEI initiatives in place ‘somewhat’ (29%) or ‘strongly’ (24%) believe their company practices “reverse discrimination” when it comes to hiring.

Additionally, 48% say they have been told to prioritize diversity over qualifications when considering an applicant.
