We are making a country of PUSSIES!

Hard working patriots made this country, and the weak arse liberals are tearing it down.

I'll do a four-day work week. But it's going to have to be four 10-hour days.

Why does it have to be any set hours per day? You can work 10 hours a day if you want but that doesn't mean more productive people should have to fit into your 40 hour box.

They have you work low pay temp jobs to prove yourself. Or they only hire people they know personally.

Or they don’t hire anyone at all.

We need to move on from quantifying labor in terms of time versus output.

If you can get your shite done in 32 hours, we should absolutely be motivating people to work smarter not longer just for the optics of an arse in a seat for 40+ hours. Its why I'm sitting here typing this out on a Friday at work after doing everything I needed to this week.

Having said that, this obviously works for the laptop class but not the service industry. I don't know how to fix that divide.

Agree.

Big problem is some jobs require having at least one person physically present during certain hours regardless of the workload on a particular day. Others have inconsistent or unpredictable workflows so you have to build in a certain amount of slack. Some have a steady workflow but the work isn't strictly time sensitive.

All of that factors into scheduling. I'm guessing that if we switched to a strictly task based compensation model, liberals wouldn't be pleased with the results. It would end up looking like Uber and Lift (or worse, Amazon Mechanical Turk).

This will convert a lot of people from hourly to salaried.

Salaried people are exempt from overtime in many cases, so they likely make the same money but work more for it.

Idiots. If there is one thing the struggling hourly employee needs… it’s their hours cut to 32 hours instead of 40.

I typically don't limit myself to the 40 that is there now. I'm normally over.

$15 hour for 32 hours then $22.50 for the next 8 hours. $34,320 minimum wage.

Thats a great way to kill retail business in America.

My dentist only works M-Th so he and his employees have friday-Sunday off. I think thats great for him. They are open early and stay a little late for people to come in before or after work, but they get 3 day weekends.

But retailers have to be open when people can shop and this would be horrible.

The bill would not eliminate 40-work weeks altogether, but it will require employers to offer employees overtime pay after 32 hours.

This sort of BS is proof that 98.2875% of lawmakers have a 2nd graders understanding of how an economy works. Like an economy can be tricked into a wage increase - all the benefits of a wage increase without any of the drawbacks of a wage increase.

Which changes the decision tree.

If you make $15 an hour you're producing more than that (or it wouldn't be profitable to have you). But you're producing less than $22.50 or you'd be making more than $15.

So the business now has to decide whether it's worth carrying the 8 deadweight hours. If no, they cut the 8 least profitable hours from the schedule. In retail and customer service that might mean closing an hour earlier or opening an hour later. In a non public facing office setting that might mean eliminating one position and dividing the work among the remaining employees.

China thinking: How can we make America less productive and less powerful? We need to make Americans work less or make doing business more expensive. How about a shorter work week? Brilliant.

Ring ring

Congress: Hello, this is Congress.
China: You mean Chinese puppet right.
Congress: Yes master, what can I do for you today.

So does this eliminate non-exempt employment altogether?

Either way, people aren't going to like what this means. Exempt employees are going to be paid less and expected to still work the 40 hours, and non-exempt employees are going to have their hours capped at 32 which means 8 less hours of work/pay they will get every week.

Do Democrats get any policy correct, ever? Serious question.

I guess the so-called "living wage" will have to go up to compensate...

People can't live on 32hrs a week - raise the minimum wage!
