Yeah. The progressives are not ruling the roost at all.

quote:

Based on recent ideological mapping, a significant majority of Democratic lawmakers align with a liberal or progressive voting record. According to Gallup News polling from 2022, 54% of Democrats nationwide identify as liberal, with that number rising to over 60% for White Democrats. While specific, universally agreed-upon "progressive rating" scores can vary by organization, Democratic lawmakers are generally recognized for consistently high, net-positive, and increasing liberal voting patterns in Congress. Ideological Shift: The percentage of Democrats identifying as liberal has grown from 25% in 1994 to 54% in 2022. Congressional Trends: In 2025, 49% of Democrats and Democratic leaners described themselves as liberal, while 43% were moderate and 6% conservative. Legislator Performance: Navigator Research (2024) reports that Democratic lawmakers are, on average, viewed positively, with high trust on issues like abortion rights and healthcare. Therefore, a very large segment of Democratic lawmakers, roughly 50-60% by self-identification, lean liberal or progressive, with the trend indicating an increase in this percentage.

Cult of personality”

It’s funny to hear Trump detractors try to deride his followers with the cult epithet and at the same time be envious of democrats voting in lock step to get their agenda accomplished.

People that see themselves as GOP need to fall in line behind Trump or learn to be happy as the democrats burn America down around them. In other words, vote in lockstep with Trump, or die on the hill of principle while the war is lost to democrats.

but trump is a political figure who brooks no dissent amongst his party and actively encourages his base of support to excise these people.

Absolutely, positively not.

Hell, this thread basically lays that out.

So let me get this straight, you’re making a conclusion about the entire Republican Party at this stage in time based on a few posts on an anonymous internet message board? And you’re questioning my skepticism and cynicism regarding the veracity of your mindset as it relates to the matters routinely discussed here on this forum?

I want to make it clear that I mean no disrespect or personal offense with any of this. I just think there are some inherent flaws in your overall approach to the assessment and view of Trump (and I guess some particular cross section of his supporters). And I’d be remiss not to highlight that…..this is nothing more than my opinion, and I gladly acknowledge that there’s no basis for me to proclaim that mine is superior to yours or anyone else’s.

Are you talking about the legislature? They are the ones in charge of spending.

It's simple. Congress controls the purse.

It would not matter who was in the WH. The Dem party is now controlled by the DSA. They are the faces of the DEM party.

I mean, liberal is different from progressive. Both are also different from Marxism or socialism.

I don't get this at all, our biggest money spenders other then defense is SS and Medicare Trump is not going to cut those, why because they those are his voters and it was always a dumb ideal to cut them and run on cutting them. I do agree we need to cut defense spending, but R's and D's in both parties hate the Ideal, not all of course.

So this is a thread where we need to defy reality and pretend the president does not play a monumental role in fedgov spending?

I am and can handle the truth, not AI/alt facts.

The fact is the progressive wing has taken over your pathetic party.

You just don’t like that.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure the next bill reducing spending that Congress might send him and he will veto will be the first.
