The thieves like to have a clean getaway would be my guess.

Well, that’s a fine way to detour crime.

Who steals detergent

Big racket for that actually. Thieves steal it and sell it for cash at way under market value.

Cash = buy drugs

You hate to see it especially in blue states.

I hope they get even more stupid. It will draw the criminals out of the red states that send people to prison for this.

So in essence… they will leave here and go there. No cost of incarceration on our part OR their part.

I was in college like 15 years ago, I worked at the mall. Someone went into Abercrombie and tried to walk out with clothes and the manager ran out of the store to stop them and get the clothes back and he was fired. It had nothing to do with the principle of the situation of stopping a thief, but that it put the store in legal risk had the situation turned somehow and the thief injured and then sued the company. They had a rule that clearly stated do not confront a thief but to report it and let the legal system handle it. I know that probably doesn’t fit the narrative but that’s why you may be seeing some companies have this policy.

i.e., let the insurance company pay for any losses. Legal system does nothing in cases like this.

Just fix the wage gap and this will end. You can’t be going on 14 years of minimum wage staying the same and expect anything good to come from it.

What’s the fix? Manufacturers are considering using radio frequency identification chips, so stolen bottles can be tracked.

And guess who pays for that folks...

Could be using it to launder drug money for the cartels.
