I mean this is just factually inaccurate. The problem is the houses you're talking about are being quickly snatched up by investors and rented out and/or renovated and sold for a much higher price.

Not really.

Right now, I'm looking at a 840 sq. ft. house on Zillow in Southdowns BR for $275k that's been listed for at least 3 months.

I bought my first house in 1998 for $85k, it was 840 sq. ft. near Southdowns. This was after starting my first job in 1990 at $18k per year.

I bought my first car at 16. They can too. Might not be top of the line, even what some call a "hooptie" mobile but it will get you from point A to point B.

Ok. See above.

How are people supposed to get from their cheap housing to the city where the job is?
Same way I do. Hooptie. I drive 67 miles one way in a 2011 ford fiesta sedan with 280K miles.

how did you get to work?

You’re making this whole thing about you. “I was able to do things because of the access and privileges I had so every single other person on earth can do the same thing I did regardless of their access and privileges.”

Egomaniac.

Cool? Not really instructive with respect to the trend you brought up, but okay.
Point being, make your choices and live with the outcomes.

No. I'm just man enough to accept responsibilty for the choices I make. Kinda like commuting 67 miles to work and not being a whiney female dog about it.

You already said you WANT to live there. So yeah, I don’t expect you to complain about living where you want to live. Do you expect a party? Jeez.

How do they get to work now? They're working now, right? Save their money, when they can buy a hooptie move. Adapt and overcome.

You keep asking about me. What am I supposed to do? Thing I see about people is they never have the time/money for things they need but always have them for what they want.

1975 11800 38100

so...
1975 = 3.22 x household income
2025 = 5.25 x household income

Now factor in both parents work bc wages didnt track with inflation.

1975 = 3.22 x household income + $0 childcare
2025 = 5.25 x household income + $800/month childcare

Now factor in inflated car payments: $4,971 vs $48,641 avg car price

1975 = 3.22 x household income + $0 childcare + 36% household income
2025 = 5.25 x household income + $800/month childcare + 64% household income (x2 bc mommy has to work now)

Now factor in student loans, $3,680 vs $38,270 annual tuition

1975 = 3.22 x household income + $0 childcare + 36% household income + 30% household income
2025 = 5.25 x household income + $800/month childcare + 64% household income (x2 bc mommy has to work now) + 50% household income (x2 bc mommy has to work now)

Life is more expensive now, get over it.

Quit shitting on the new generation and just be glad you lived in a time where you werent saddled with crazy debt while starting your life.

I bought my current house in Jan 2021. As soon as the Dems won the Senate run offs, I knew inflation was coming and made an offer and locked in a sub 3% rate that week.

Even with a low mortgage payment locked in, the increase of home owners insurance and property taxes in the Biden years were brutal. The inflation on the escrow items was enough to have made an additional payment toward the principle each year. Making that extra payment each year would allow you to pay off a 30 year mortgage in 25 years. Bidenomics will be kicking our asses years after that senile old crook has croaked.

16 year olds without cars? I’m not assuming they have jobs.

When I was 16 without a car, I walked to work but I was lucky enough to live close to my job. Not everyone does.

Save what money? How can they earn money if they live in a rural area without public transportation?

think critically. You can’t think outside of your own personal experiences which is why you are unable to understand things about the world we live in

Saw a video showing that home prices have gone up 47% since 2020. That is not sustainable for anyone.

In the 5 years from 1977 to 1982 inflation was 59.2% - not just home prices, but average price for everything. Is that any more or less sustainable?

Home prices may have outpaced inflation over the last 20 years, but inflation has been historically low during that period.

By "we" do you mean the government? Isn't government interference in the housing market part of the problem we're experiencing today?

You guys keep bitching. Put up or shut up. What is your age and your household income? If you are sub 30 and bitching about not being able to afford a 500K house GTFO.

16 year olds are not buying houses. What we are taking about here is buying houses. I was simply saying that my first car was at 16. Smoked and leaked like crazy but got me from A to B.

I was talking about the people looking for a home and not able to purchase one. I live in a rural area and could easily get a job making 40K a year. (median income)

quote:

Save what money? How can they earn money if they live in a rural area without public transportation?
If they don't have money, they can't purchase a home now can they. Whether the home is expensive or not does not matter to them. No one needs to provide you transportation, take responsibility for yourself.

Who is bitching? We’re having a discussion about an important political issue.

Yet you can't seem to recognize that those in the lat 70's and 80's had an equally bad trend. They made it work. So can your generation, unless your generation is weaker...
