The person you replied to was correct in his statement in that, in general, illegal immigrants are not eligible for SNAP, Medicaid or TANF. The issue is that while an illegal isn't eligible for SNAP or TANF any children or otherwise eligible immigrants in the household are and the illegal doesn't count as a household member for benefit amount but their income is prorated based on household size. So there could be a net benefit in that a benefit household of the same size with the same income receives equal to, or less than, the same size one with an illegal.
As for Medicaid illegals are eligible for what is called "emergency, time-limited Medicaid". Legally that is limited to "placing the patient's health in serious jeopardy, serious impairment to bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ" but in practice it's anything a doctor says is an emergency condition.
ETA: Under Expanded Medicaid states also have the option to allow immigrants, who can't verify qualified immigrant status up to 90 days to provide verification of their status but will receive Medicaid in that meantime, with no limits on how often they can receive that 90 days of eligibility.
Also under Covid PHE rules (2020-2024) there was no real check on immigration status. If you said you were a qualified immigrant (legal permanent resident for 5 years or a refugee or an asylee/parolee with at least 1 year of approved residence or a cuban/haitian) you got Medicaid. COVID rules were a mess.

Even legal immigrants shouldn't be. Refugees, H1Bs, nor the family that tagged alonged. Immigrants are supposed to be able to support themselves. But of course the whole problem won't get fixed.
