That'll force the a-hole restaurant owners down here on the Gulf Coast to serve gulf shrimp and support our local shrimpers.
No it won’t. They’ll just raise prices and serve imported shrimp from Vietnam.

Then fact anyone would willingly consume something for China is disgusting
You must not eat seafood from restaurants or from chain grocery stores. Almost all of it is foreign.

have no ill will for catfish farmers, auto makers or the producers of any of 1000 various things we all use, but how do you decide which industries to prop up? You can't prop up all of them. If it's not national security I don't see a logical place to draw the line.
You could import what we cannot produce enough of to meet demand or don’t have the resources to produce it, and things we can produce plenty of protect those industries by not importing competition

We can produce plenty of a lot of things if you protect the industries from competition. You want all your clothes to be made in the US? Easy, just make the tariff high enough on imported clothing, then enjoy your $80 t-shirts and $150 jeans.

China is one country.
We still get seafood from likely slaveships from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, ect.
All need tariffs

What about imported crawfish
China is the world's largest producer of crawfish
Some packs of Chinese crawfish sold in US supermarkets are labeled with Cajun Louisiana names.

You know we can produce things cheaper right? By lowering taxes and deregulating industry

I'm all for that, but those aren't tariffs that raise prices. Those are measures that lower the cost of doing business here, they don't artificially raise it on the competition.
And if it's something that's labor intensive we're frequently going to be at a disadvantage no matter how equal you make other factors.

You wearing clothes and shoes made in the US?
Both were made here in the 1960’s. Ironically, it was the biggest industry in NYC at the time.
Why do you hate what was once good for America?

Zea’s is another local restaurant that uses Asian imported seafood. It’s embarrassing.

Glad I stopped eating there.

It would make seafood prices go up outside the coastal areas.
I keep hearing these excuses. “Don’t put tariffs on imports cause it will make our prices go up.” “Can’t kick out the illegals cause then locals have to pick our food and prices will go up.”
I’m curious what the people that say think think a viable alternative is?

The tariff also includes Mexico and Canada...
Those two will likely be the likeliest importers of third party seafood. Otherwise, any significant importer would have been targeted.
No one is asking for perfection, most are just asking for transparency. If you want to pay cheaper for Chinese farm raised shrimp eating the things that comes with that, cool.
Just should be out in the open, hopefully some of the advancements in supply chain and specifically seafood traceability comes through.
The problem is most consumers think a shrimp is a shrimp and don't care otherwise.

Don't a lot of seafood come from other Asian countries also? Will they be hit with tariff's also?
