What are their similarities? I admittedly don't know a lot about Vance but from what I do know this seems like a very different pick than Pence.

They're both from the Midwest, and they're both lawyers. The only differences are that Pence doesn't have a movie on Netflix about his rise from a rural dysfunctional Midwestern family, and J.D. Vance likely doesn't refer to his wife as Mother.

On paper he is the best pick. Face it you guys, he will help Trump win even more so.
-Ivy Leaguer
-Senator
-Marine/War Vet
-Venture Capitalist/money ties

Yes, he said some thing about Trump in the past but unity is key here and now. He's also a policy wet dream for most of us. Anti-abortion, anti gay marriage, anti-sex change for minors, anti-illegal immigration, similar stance on foreign policy as Trump, etc.

Doesn’t get more swampy than Harvard, Yale, and Stanford law grads.

That aside, hopefully this locks up Ohio for him.

The late, great Abraham Lincoln did that with Mary Todd

a brilliant move and here’s why JD was a Never Trumper He’s now all in on America First Tru p wants to peel off some never trumper votes and show people it’s ok that you used to hate me but I have changed and so have you bla bla bla

Exactly. Trump doesn’t need more MAGA support

He needs more never trumper support
He needs more young voter support
He needs more suburban mom support
He needs the Midwest middle ground centrist voters

JD Vance appeals to all of the above

Vance vs Kamala is going to be hilarious

JD was an outsider at Yale. He did not fit the profile of coming from an East or West coast elitist family. He came from dirt poor people in Eastern KY.

I hope he has genuinely changed. Those prior never Trump comments were bad.

Under normal circumstances, I would've said that whomever the VP pick was largely irrelevant, but Saturday's events raise a solid counterpoint to that argument.

As long as he stays loyal to Trump and doesn't pull a Pence, then I'm fine with him. I really like his stance on Ukraine and his stance on education and all of the politically correct nonsense, and seems to be a strong America first policy wise.

He just needs to stay loyal to Trump and he'll be more than fine.

On one of Dave Smith's recent episodes of Part of the Problem podcast he showed a clip of Vance on CNN or MSNBC to show an example of how the media tries to corner people into some kind of passive submission. I thought Vance did a great job in that interview communicating his points and staying on topic and being collected and cool. Would have to dig that clip up but he seemed sharp and impressive.

I was a little surprised, thought it was going to be Burgum—despite the Never Trump past (which I’m curious as to how it plays out), at least as a pol now, understands what time it is, that the Republican Party can’t be business as usual, etc.

Has a compelling backstory, poor to Marines to Yale law, to Senator—definitely accomplished and sharp. Can’t say it really swings anyone, or was an electoral map strategic decision.

I see it as a middle finger to the Swampy Rino's so in that regard I'm happy, he wasn't my top pick but it could have been a lot worse.

Some of you apparently don’t know what a swamp creature is and I find it funny you’d consider him one yet would prefer an actual swamp creature

Many on this board love Matt Gaetz, yet I don’t think he’s had hardly a professional life outside of politics. At least Vance accomplished something before becoming a politician.
