Move to another country like Russia then. People shouldn't be forced ...., give me a break! George Washington would have hung you.

For illegal immigrants that want to earn citizenship and able bodies who receive tax payer funded income. I’m game

Seriously
This is possibly the dumbest idea ever. I love my military but conscription is stupid. Unless in times of major active combat. Which we’ve not seen in 50 years.

Switzerland does this. I don’t recall anyone ever invading them (yes I know they are neutral) but when a country knows that ever citizen has army training and at least 2 years of combat training I think they’d give pause to invading.
I own several Swiss rifles K31, K11, and others and they are very accurate

Charlie didn't get much USO. He was dug in too deep or moving too fast. His idea of great R&R was cold rice and a little rat meat. He had only two ways home: death, or victory.

No free nation can demand that its citizens serve in their military.

Have you ever taught high school? If so, you would know that many of our 18 year olds are grossly unsuitable for military service. Although there are lots of promising young people, there are many who have no self -discipline or impulse control.

This banana republic is not worth my kids dying for. Find a couple of thousand guilty for the Treason that has occurred over the past 6-7 years, and then maybe I can resurrect some patriotism in my soul.

Lots of folks on here don’t know what it’s like to have a draft. I had a lottery draft number of 76 during Viet Nam. I was in college at the time using my 2S deferment (student). I called my local draft board and asked about my chances of being drafted after graduation in May. I was told with a number of 76… I would be drafted and in Viet Nam by October or November.
I remember the day they had the draft lottery. A bunch of us guys were in the dorm downstairs watching it on tv, as they would pull out birthdates… and they were assigned a number. A guy next to me received a lottery number of #1. He threw his coke bottle against the wall and ran outside cussing and yelling.
So, I enlisted and ended up spending 20 years in the army… retiring as a Major (army medical service corps officer)
It was a crazy time during the draft. The college seminaries were full of students studying to be ministers to get that deferment….people were coming up with all kinds of health issues to hopefully fail their induction physical….. some were claiming to be gay…. some were CO…. etc.
If your parents had money and any political influence you could get help in keeping you out of the draft. ( remember the CC Revival song “ Fortunate Son”). Lots of guys moved to Canada… lots of draft cards were burned during protests/demonstrations. I still have my draft card.
It was crazy. In the army you were either US (draftee) RA ( regular army) or NG ( national guard). If you were lucky you were able to find a national guard unit to join. That kept you out of Nam. Those slots were hard to find though.
After the draft ended they went to VOLAR… volunteer army… and enlisted folks no longer had to pull KP and other stuff.

Our military is a great foundation. OTS is for the best and for some of the brightest.
