Nailed it.

They even have a plant in China
With a 125% tax on the cars which pretty much narrows his market there significantly.

BYD has surpassed Tesla as the worlds biggest seller of EVs.

China's population is approximately 1.415 billion, while the United States' population is around 342 million, meaning China has over four times the population of the U.S.

In 2024, nearly 90% of BYD's vehicle sales were in China, with the remaining 10% coming from international markets

In 2024, the U.S. accounted for roughly 49% of Tesla's market share, while China represented about 6%.
Info for comparison.
Also, BYD is NEVs, which include hybrids... Tesla is EV.

When will all this supposed competition bring car prices down? It's ridiculous the price of cars is going up, it should be going down fast.

I was Shocked by the Chinese cars i saw in Europe. The BYD cars were really nice. Then in China they have tons of nice brands in house..
$40k gets you a really nice Chinese car. While that's a basic car here.

The threat is actually vehicles like the toyota hilux
This. All. Day. This.
We couldn't even get the Jimney here.
Lots of good, cheap vehicles that would sell good here, if we would let them. Dacia Duster anyone?

Honestly at this point I don't feel like American Automakers are worth rooting for. As long as Chinese cars meet American safety standards, open the floodgates.
American automakers can compete, or the can die. It's their choice.

Tesla is the best US car and it’s not close
My son just bought one. He got a heavy duty charger installed in his home garage. Tesla’s aren’t practical vehicles in most places in the US. The infrastructure isn’t there. I would never buy one as a middle class person. Tesla and most electric vehicles benefited from corporate welfare. Let’s see how they do on a level playing field. The best vehicles right now will likely end up being Toyota Hybrids in the US for cost and practicality. We will see.

I have yet to see one. Not a single one.

Ford and GM aren’t behind because for a few years they spent 0.01% of their budgets on DEI initiatives. They’re behind because they think in terms of quarterly results whereas Chinese companies, with help from the CCP, think in decade long increments.

Let me guess they’re so scared they’ll lobby the government to not allow them in the country, even more.

Don't worry Farley, Ford and GM will have their chance to screw the US populace even more.
That’s exactly what this sounds like- setting the stage.

I test drove a BYD Seal in Dublin. Was an incredible car. Loaded the sticker was €45k. I was shocked.
I wanted to check out the Sealion but they didn't have one in stock.

I don’t disagree. But, let’s not forget slave labor. That is definitely a factor. Probably the biggest factor.

1 frick Ford and US car companies, their product is absolute trash
2 china will always use the lowest quality or cheapest raw materials available

Always remember...it was manufactured in China from designs or portions thereof stolen from others.

All the more reason DEI must die.
I have a mentee who used to work at GM, so much red tape and empty suits who saw GM as just a paycheck.

There is some reason for it. They aren’t scared of Chinese technology. Maybe scared of cheap Chinese technology.
