Maybe if there was a greater demand for welders or coders than miners they would.

Well, because they are jobs
Jobs feed people

And, they are in an area of the country where coal is abundant
People made their lives in that area for that reason

Plus, those jobs were only targeted as political ideology
Politics is no reason to determine economic opportunity

I mean, you could also ask, What's so great about news media jobs? What if a party decided to attack those jobs, and news organizations started shutting down or laying off people?

Oh, wait! Trump is evil for doing that, right? Guess what, that means Obama must have been evil too, huh?

Why can’t the people of West Virginia learn welding or coding instead?

I think it would be a great learning experience for you to go ask them...

What's so great about any job?
It provides for families. Coal gives us cheap energy. What's not to understand?

We have the world’s largest amount of high quality anthracite coal. We have an abundance of this prime natural resource. We should sell this to whomever is willing to buy it and use it where financially feasible.

The world has been several degrees warmer and several degrees colder. The temperature will always be in flux. Only a moron will believe that people can control the temperature of this planet. Who was causing all the other times the temperature changed?
You anti coal global warming fools are fricking stupid.

Maybe take the time to ask some coal workers who have done it most of their lives trying to make a living. Not everyone cut out to be a coal miner. Got to be tough and have a lot of pride. Guess that eliminates you

They have nothing else to turn to.

Strip mining is ruining wv.
Now everyone gets to breath coal dust. Now no one can drink the water.

Coal mining is on it's way out,the nation needs welders and builders and it can pay six figures if you're willing to travel.

Going backward isn't the answer.

Do you know how many welding jobs are linked to fossil fuel production and power plants?

The average coal miner makes more money. It's not a job everyone will do.

Ya.. That family went on to buy large places and a bunch of Cadillacs.
The "windmill" guys ended up living in their mom's basements with propeller hats. Their whole life's goal was hoping for the most windy days.
