I never saw her as funny just a goofy black woman in sister act. Wasn't she on HBOs Def comedy jam in 1989 or something

Never.

It was a test: can the media make 50 plus percent believe something that is antithetical? Answer, yes.

Like “it’s a vaccine!” And “Lizzo is pretty!”

I liked her as Buckwheat’s mom in the modern Little Radcals rendition because it seemed culturally accurate

Saw her do a routine on local TV at a comedy club in San Francisco before she was famous. She did a “bag lady” routine. Her comedy was nothing special. Surprised she made it big.

Her stand up stuff back in the day was awesome. Used to love to see her on the MDA telethon with Robin Williams, Jerry Lewis and Billy Crystal.

She was really funny.

I was a kid but I vaguely remember her stand up being pretty funny.

he has said in numerous interviews that she chose Goldberg as her last name because a Jewish last name could help her in her showbiz career.

NGL... That's a smart decision.

Good question, I am guessing you are talking about her Stand Up Act and
her one woman show called "Spook Show" I never thought her Stand Up Acts were funny and couldn't even finish watching "Spook Show". So I will say she has never been funny, IMO.

Next question. When has Wanda Sykes been funny?

but thats a funny script... making her a comedic actress does that mean shes funny?

Good point. A standup comic might be really funny. But in TV and movies it's all about the script. Pat Buttram was not funny as a goofy sidekick in westerns. But as Mr. Haney in Greenacres he was hysterically funny. All due to script.

Yeah, she’s attractive. Nice legs. But absolutely NOT FUNNY.

I just don’t get her.

Haven't watched any of her standup or other work, but she was the highlight of the Tom Brady Roast

does that mean shes funny?

No, but it does make her a gifted actress. In Ghost and the Sister Act movies, she was given a funny script and adapted well to it, and was hysterical. But being naturally funny? I haven't seen that from Whoopi.

Look at someone like Jim Carrey, and you're looking at someone who is the living embodiment of comedy. His Living Color days through most of his comedy movies, were absolutely brilliant. But if you watch a role he played like in The Truman Show or Eternal Sunrise of the Spotless Mind, it shows Carrey's ability to adapt to a serious role with great fluidity.

I don't recall Whoopi's stand up route as being particularly funny. She used to do some lame Valley Girl schtick that got old after a couple of minutes.
