It’s not that simple.
I think there are wolves and sheep in both camps:
Conservatives:
Wolves - capitalist that abuse the system to the detriment of anyone but self (think globalist conservatives like W and Cheney that created war for profit of MIC)
Sheep - those that are more pure in motive, individualist who seek self gain and desire freedom from government overreach and from of speech, religion, etc. they erroneously support the wolves much of the time.
Liberals:
Wolves - power hungry socialist or fascist that see, similar to convervative wolves, that government can centralize power. They hate individualism and freedom of speech and self (which is why they hate religion).
Sheep - generally good hearted folks that think emotionally and thus anger when they perceive wrongs. They think government, if done right, is the cure for societal ills. This can be right in context. They too fall prey to the wolves and their desire for justice is cooped into suppression of freedom and speech.

Conservatives believe in individualism. We are responsible for ourselves, if you want a better life, it's on you. This mentality is what led America to be a productive, rich, and moral country. You provide for yourself.
Liberals believe in collectivism. We are all in this together. This mentality voids one of self-responsibility and can shift blame from the individual to a group. This is why they hate white people. Government needs to provide everything through taxation.
These are completely two different mindsets. The problem is that liberals have benefited from this victim mentality. They live their live believing America is against them. Very easy mentality for politicians to cater to.

Conservatives are not for what makes the country more productive, they were against civil rights, they were for slavery (Although they were democrats in that time period, they were considered conservative party)
Conservatives are not for safer country because if they were, they would have banned the KKK, statistically white males commit more mass shootings than any other race, but they target minorities.
Conservatives are confused on what is moral. They are used Biblical morality when it fits their narrative.
Liberals, statistically the country has been more productive as we become progressive.
Not sure how Liberals make the country less safe. If you are referring to border issue, then statistically immigrants commit less crimes than natives...Since 2010, more Asian Americans have entered the country than Mexicans....
Liberal morality is really suspect for the most part. The Gay stuff is a mental health issue.

They are not trying to do negative things. They are trying to make society more equal. Equality is extremely unnatural to humans. So, you get unintended consequences when you attempt to alter nature. Those consequences = the negative effects.
