I remember Bush did a lot of things under the name of GW- Climate change now.
And Josh lol I was not by any means insulting you. I didn't know you were a libertarian and really don't know about somehow pot being associated with them.
ETA-The only political label I recognize right away are progressives. I don't even know what I am. Conservative I suppose but if libertarians are truly less govt. and not like liberals like some say here- I am part libertarian.

Wow. That's quite the stretch in logic and gov't giving itself more power.

Can someone tell me why?

Because the world's supply of tungsten is shrinking at such a rate its use is more important in manufacturing processes than home/business lighting where alternatives are available.
This has been known for awhile now hence the law written awhile back is taking effect now.
Its not some green earth agenda you paranoid poliranters think it is, its simple supply and demand for more essential needs.

On January 1, 2014, in keeping with a law passed by Congress in 2007, the old familiar tungsten-filament 40- and 60-watt incandescent light bulbs can no longer be manufactured in the U.S. , because they don’t meet federal energy-efficiency standards.

Because they use less energy thus cutting your electrical bill is about the whole of it. As far as the whole package is concerned they are crap. The lumens emitted are less so you sit in a darker room, they don't last the promised life time of years, and as most will never be recycled responsibly they are a mercury pollution disaster for Mother Earth. I read about a company that is legally making incandescent bulbs just a few days ago byway of a loophole in the law. They have 60 and 100 watt bulbs for sale at present.

Could there be a black market in Texas or somewhere else?
I'll let ya know my prices once i verify the store here is still sellin them.
ETA: I love the irony of me, a wind energy technician, selling light bulbs on the black market.

Link?
I'd love to stock up on as much as I can before the Feds close the loophole.

I don't think the ban is on selling the old bulbs, it's on the manufacturing them. My understanding is that most retailers will have enough stock for another six months depending on the number of people who decide to buy them up in bulk.

Google rough service incandescent light bulb. Apparently there is a loop hole for incandescent bulbs here.

I can't link it because I didn't pay attention to what website it was on. Now if every one that always needs a link could learn how to do a web search on their own it would be nice. You can even use Boolean operators in them.

They aren't banned. You're free to make as many of them as you like for your personal use.
If you're talking about the ban on selling them into interstate commerce, talk to George W. Bush, who signed it, or the 86 Senators and 314 Representatives who voted for it.

Oh, and in case you didn't know, the new ones are an environmental disaster.
So the Earth can heal itself of all woes - except flourescent lighting.
BTW the average incandescent bulb causes more mercury to be released into the atmosphere over its lifetime than the average unrecylced flourescent bulb. Unless you plan on eliminated coal as a power source.

When it gives off a cold, harsh and annoying light instead of the warm, golden light that we all know and love, progress can go DIAF.
Take some personal responsibility and read the label on the light bulbs you buy. Unless you can see infrared radiation, there are flourescents available with the same warm light spectrum as incandescents.
