It makes sense in places like the Washington to Boston corridor.....maybe in Texas with DFW, Austin ,San Antonio and even Houston. It really does not make sense beyond those areas....not even the West Coast

Do you think this debacle will make it past Elon and the DOGE test?

It will not.

Probably has a lot to do with population density. Canada doesnt have them.

Americans fly.

this would be a gigantic waste of money. It's not feasible and plane is cheaper and faster.

Unless it can go from NY to LA in less than 4 hours and be super cheap it is not needed.

We are going to have flying cars before that would get built.

Who gives a flying frick? We got bigger fish to fry. High speed rail is virtually impossible with all the environmental regulations and impact studies currently required.

Perhaps even someone like you can grasp the obstacles in place for high speed rail at the moment.

making it happen isn't the issue. it's making it profitable

Is the new FL train system profitable?

I would love to pay whatever for a train ride from SoCal to Vegas
Cant wait for that to be built

Massive public works cost too much to complete in this country anymore.

Elon will build a hyperloop instead.

I haven't heard much lately, but I think his 'Boring Tunnel" idea is at least interesting, with some real potential positives.

Hyperloop, being above ground, requires access to all the property it runs through, just like rail. It's gonna be real, real expen$ive.

The tunnels are deep enough, they don't interfere with any existing infrastructure. Just go straight line between points. Weather-proof, and I think I read they would be less susceptible to earthquake damage than surface transport.

Might not be feasible at all, I don't know. But interesting, and less of a pipe dream than Hyperloop, IMO.

At this point, it seems more practical to focus on autonomous cars than rail. We have road infrastructure ... If I want to go from Jax to ...Charleston why would I want a train and set schedule? If I want to go to Denver ...I still don't want a 30+ hr train ride I .. I'll fly

It’s not practical here. Wide open spaces with vast distances between population centers mostly. Only works in the Northeast.

Some applications would make sense like Dallas > Houston > Austin
