You do know we won the Vietnam war right?

guess the ratio of enemies killed vs Americans killed in it?
Doesnt matter, they did what they had to do to win. And we were pushing copters into the water to make way for fleeing people as we ran away.

My families and many others was at the Saigon's airport waiting to be evacuated when the airport was shelled and the runway was too damage for used. We spend the night in the plane hangar and thought we had all been abandoned. In the morning, US troop divided all the passengers into groups of 50 and told to only have one small bag per person. Soon, Chinooks helicopters start landing and picking up each group and take off. We landed on the USS Midway. We was being rushed off the helicopter and down into the ship but I remember looking back and see many Chinooks and Hueys waiting to land. My guess is that these helicopters landed, unloaded and push into the sea because they need to make room for other to land before running out of fuel. The helicopters don't have the fuel to fly back and no where to land as the NVA was already in the Saigon and surrounded the airport. I was 9 year old in 1975.

We “won” the war and promptly hightailed it out of Saigon as the NVA and VC marched in?
Regardless of comparative casualties,
we never controlled enough territory to create long term stability…

How did they “win”
To say we lost it you’d have to say we lost the Korean War. Americas last involvement with it ended in the exact same settlement.
Did we lose the Korean War?

Real Politik is back. All that matters is hard power because international law is a fantasy when the USA doesn’t enforce it, which we aren’t really more and more as time goes on.
This is absolutely idiotic.
quote:
We are seeing the formalization of the American empire even if we don’t call it that outright it’s what it is. A vassals job isn’t to act like an equal, equality is a bullshite nonsense idea, it’s to shut the frick up and support us while they take the yearly cash injections and enjoy our military protection.
We need to make a massive lesson out of Canada
This is even more stupid. If you profess the world operates by realpolitik, then you should realize what the consequences of an action are before you embark on them.

The only international law the USA is still enforcing is maritime. Remember Serbia? That’s what used to happen when people broke international law.
It’s literally just a fantasy at this point because we enforce the sea which we can stop at anytime and we can enforce will unchallenged on anything we want to do. This means a piece of paper with words on it useless. It’s only worth what we choose to make it worth

Because the North Vietnamese's political objectives were met.

No. Different conflicts have different objectives. It was, at the minimum, indecisive, because neither side was able to meet their objectives, at least the ones that the US and the SK had during the middle period of the war.

Canada is the new Ukraine, and Greenland is the new Romania.

You realize that I am not objecting to the notion that there is no such thing as international law. International relations and geopolitics is anarchic, and attempts to put order on it at the very least give the people writing the rules, in this case the US, leeway to break them when they need to.

What?
Okay, you realize that I am objecting to the notion that you can profess realpolitik and in the same post suggest we punish a vassal state for some illusory reasons. That is not a scenario of realpolitik.
