What I heard was that he was asked to take a pay-cut on his 350K annual salary and he refused.

So SI management gave him an even bigger pay-cut.

Okay got it

Wahl is a douchebag who thinks he's more important than he is. I can see how he said no to a pay reduction. That's how he's always come across ... a bitcher and moaner.

Not a fan of Wahl, but being out of work sucks.

Took me three edits to decide what I wanted this to say lol.

He really does epitomize the sort of woke faggy American soccer caricature that people picture when thinking of American soccer fans.

I also don’t care for him, but you never take joy in someone losing their job.

You'd think he's going to get another job pretty fast, but if he wouldn't take a paycut at $350K, I don't know what media group in the current cost-cutting climate is going to offer him anything close to that salary to only be relevant to the mainstream once every 4 years (or in this case 8 years since we haven't been to the World Cup since 2014).

So who knows what happens to him.

fair enough

I guess I should’ve said there are exceptions, And honestly the more I think about he really is insufferable as a talking head. I’ve never really read much of his writing, so I can’t speak to that, but just seeing him reminds me of this scene from the weatherman, and elicits a similar response from me....

I don’t like his face...

I was expecting he made more considering his resume
350k doesn’t seem like a lot and if he made under 200 that’s really bad

Damn so $350k a year is some of the highest in that industry?

He was only a writer for SI, and then did contract work for Fox on the side (not sure what he was paid for appearances).

A top-end national writer for a publication is probably 250k-350k, with the usual beat reporters and such making anywhere from 50k-150k.

I know only a few of the big name athletic writers are making over 100K with most of them in the 50k to 70K range. And in Wahl's case, he earned that salary from both his longevity and having covered college basketball in the 90's and 2000's. No way in hell someone is paying someone who is now a pure soccer writer 350K right out of the gate.

His Twitter lately has been nothing but full on TDS. Cant stop talking about his brilliant doctor of a wife and how trump should be stopped from talking about anything related to the virus

He's been irrelevant for a while now. Plus he's horrible on television, I don't see Fox or ESPN picking him up for USMNT coverage.

I called him a snowflake in a thread a few days ago

His BROTHER just tweeted me a picture of my number of twitter followers. Because that means something apparently

He's going back at Maven on twitter right now. I laughed when he called his writing "extremely prolific"

I can picture it. Sounds like Twitter snobbery and thin skin runs in the family.

Remember when he told the men's team to basically frick off because the women's world cup was starting, even though the men were also competing in a competitive tourney? (Not to mention COPA)

He should've been fired right then for dereliction of duty

Maven just fired me from Sports Illustrated. No severance. Nothing.

Twitter has really showed people who cant handle things like men.

This is such a "i want the whole world to see how bad i was treated and upset i am" thing.

Be upset, thats fine.

But i was raised, as a man, to keep that shite to yourself and your inner circle. Dont broadcast your fricking feels to the world.
