And there's never been any clock controversy in any other sport ever.

Thanks for playing.

Jesus. Almost thought we’d make it through the entire World Cup with one of these.

its pretty simple. they add on however much time stoppage time there is and then wait until the ball is in a neutral position. if they had a clock that stopped and was precise to the second then it would frick up attacking chances at the end of games

2018, they have clocks that tell you precisely how much time is left. That is the most infuriating part of soccer. They refuse to tell time correctly and only one person in the stadium actually knows how much time is left. That defies logic.

Not to mention all the gay arse fake injuries and time wasting that comes with it

But soccer fan is too insecure to ever admit theirs anything wrong with their sport

The only thing it needs to fix is the clock. Other aspects of the game, including the offside rule, are for the most part fine.

Yeah I'm actually impressed. Maybe our collective efforts have paid off.

it's only taken 12 years to get a "why do they have the offsides rule in soccer?" thread to wait this long

maybe by 2024, it will wait until the finals

it's not difficult for the tv presentation to show the "actual stoppage" time. i bet once they did that, things would change

1st, it's not really that well defined what should be added for stoppage time. They need to really clarify what that is.

2nd, it would be really easy to have the game clock keep running, but have a 2nd clock that only keeps track of how long the ball is out of play to keep track of stoppage time. Once the game clock reaches 45'/90', keep it running until you've reached the time shown on the 2nd clock. Blow the whistle. The clock never stops, no chance to add commercials, no one has room to complain about too much/little time was added. Simple solution.

1. Get rid of the offsides rule. Seems pointless and really slows down the game and kills a lot of scoring opportunities.

?? Like the 4 hour CBS CFB games? Fk that. How are you going to keep the commercials out if you stop time?

This dumb thread pops up every World Cup. The only changes I would maybe consider would be to shrink the size of the penalty box and move the penalty kick spot farther back.

And for the love of god, bring back the old MLS shootouts to replace the current penalty kick shootouts.

1. Get rid of all fouls in the box being penalties. Only if it denies a legit obvious goal scoring opportunity. Given how hard it is to score the punishment almost never fits the crime.

2. Get rid of yellow card accumulation rule.

3. Get rid of Fair Play rule.

4. Punish diving severely by suspending retroactively and/or forcing a player to stay out for a period of time if the game has to stop for them.

5. Stop protecting cry baby keepers so much.

All those perhaps but what about just one minor change that would make the game much more interesting (and popular in the United States) without changing the nature of it. Just make the goals a little bigger so more points would be scored. Make it big enough so that an average final score would be like 5-3 instead of like 2-1. I bet adding 10' to the width and 1' to the height would do that.
