You already support the yankees so why not go support the EPL version of them, Man United

Bournemouth would be a solid choice.

I mean if you're looking at those clubs you may as well jump on the Sunderland bandwagon with me.

Fans are bitter, self depreciating, it's in an economically downtrodden portion of country, and we've had like 7 managers in the last 4 years... but there is usually an American on the squad, you won't find more passionate fans in the league, and we seem to have had 2 decent managers in a row, and avoiding relegation annually is always thrilling... Things are looking up... Kind of.

Also we haven't had to resort to "dominating" the championship like Newcastle yet.

Southampton seems to be a team that isn't a front runner pick that has a chance. I've tried to follow soccer, but I can only muster the faintest of interests.

Liverpool is the New York Yankees of the BPL. You should root for them.

1. Manchester United is the NYY of England
2. There is no such thing as the BPL

No, they aren't. Liverpool has won more overall trophies and European Cups.

Okay, I forgot that the Barclays sponsorship expired after last year. You're right about that one.

It's such a lazy comparison that so many people use because they hear it repeated so often by people who don't have a clue.

No point in even arguing it anymore b/c the majority will agree with them being the yankees even though they are wrong.

People fail to realize what United did the last 15 years or so, was done by Liverpool first.

Winning everything, explosion of fan base, big money transfers etc.

Still doesn't make them the yankees.

There aren't great like-to-like comparisons between European clubs and American sports teams (even the cap-less MLB) because it's such a different type of sport.

But that's exactly where the comparison comes from... whether its accurate or not.. Most people that I ever hear use that comparison are very casual soccer fans, if that.. and they only know the EPL

edit: I agree its a lazy comparison

Also, most people's memories, that follow soccer these days, don't go back far enough to remember the others..

I think the better American team comparison I've heard for United is the Chicago Bulls. Solid success early on, ridiculous stretch of titles with a dominant manager/head coach, faded from championship glory in recent years.

It's not perfect (United doesn't really have a Jordan figure), but it works better than the Yankees.

I think the global branding makes the Yankees and United not that crazy of a comparison. It is not an insult to either team.

Same could be said about Liverpool, Bayern, Barca, Madrid, Juve etc...

Sure, but when most people use that comparison, they're usually just referencing the titles.

I think the people that say that really only know the EPL and their memories (of both teams) start in the 90s.. In the late 70s you probably would of heard LFC, though I don't think there was enough of an American interest to warrant one..

IF I were going to compare a team to the Yankees it would be Real Madrid.. And that would be without a lot to it..

I prefer not having a team and just enjoying it all.
