And I don't remember many games he lost that he should have won. Always took care of the minnows and then set us up in a decent enough way for the bigger teams.

And Bob was (usually) pretty good about calling up adequate players to fit a particular 23. The problem was that sometimes he'd do something like start a completely done Ricardo Clark instead of a better available option.
Now, under Jurgen, we start a completely done Wondolowski and a completely outmatched Beckerman. It's actually worse now than it was then.

The people claiming that we could win were just obsessed with using our young talent. Pulisic + Nagbe was not our magic elixir.
What we needed was to overload the midfield and force Argentina to beat us out wide (of course, Lavezzi was brilliant) especially with di Maria sitting. We also needed tactical discipline and organization, which were non-existant.

England is a shite squad full of choke artists and Iceland has been one of the most impressive teams so far in the tournament.
I'm still having fun.

He's not the best manager in the world but he's very smart tactically and he gave us a fighting chance against the best teams.
He's done so well with some small clubs (and Egypt) overseas. What he does works.

The commentary was hilariously awful. Patronizing as hell to Iceland. Beating England just isn't a big deal.

And Iceland basically does what we use to do so well. I honestly miss BobBall.
Nothing makes you appreciate bob ball like a coach with no tactical acumen.

The English love to be over-dramatic about themselves.
They love making a glory of their failure.
And they've been over-stating their quality and world importance in soccer for over 30 years.
(the entire broadcast all they talked about was the EPL - the richest league - it's not like the EPL is simply made up of English players.)

Dude this is the equivalent of like Wake Forest winning the title in football.

Dude, no.
Iceland is ranked 34th in the world and just won a Round of 16 match against a team that has done nothing but fail in knockout stages since 2006.
Wake Forest went 3-9 last season and was rated as the 92nd-best team in the FBS by the S&P+ metrics.
The population/enrollment comparison makes some sense, but Iceland is actually good. Wake Forest hasn't been since that Orange Bowl run in 2006.

England often under perform, I don't know that it's really the case with this group though they were just was never very good.
They still would have beaten Iceland with a competent manager though.

oh i admit i was wrong about bob
i do think we needed a change, but we should be a structure-defense-counter team
with our speed outside and lack of talent in the midfield, it makes sense

Shrewd and pragmatic, nothing wrong with that

J love the morons that are trying to tie this match into Brexit. I just laugh at them and say, "ask me how I can tell that you know NOTHING about international soccer, especially England."

From a British message board...
What the fudge have we done in the last 50 years to warrant been talked about on the same level as the likes of Germany, Italy and Spain?
We have one of the best leagues in the world, but that's largely down to the foreign players who play here. Many English players struggle to get a game, and end up bouncing around the Championship on loan before usually fading into obscurity.
The "grass root" redevelopment that we've been banging on about forever still hasn't happened (or, if it has, only in a very limited way). Despite all this, we're always expected to contend in any tournament we enter.
We are a team that qualifies for the vast majority of tournaments, and usually makes the knockout stages. That is our level, and will be until we move out of the footballing dark ages (as well as finding players who actually want to play for their country).
