It seems clear that Nagbe will be an important piece to this squad. With the way he played in this tournament and what we know Pulisic is capable of, how good can these guys be together?

ETA: I expect them to be great together and create tons of opportunities.

Very good. We sure up the back line and now that Michael Bradley actually knows what he supposed to do, everyone can be on the same page.

If Nagbe was even a decent finisher I feel like teams in Europe would be beating down the door. He's still good enough to play for some mid table sides imo

When we played ecuador last year, i think it was a tune up for the copa, there was period in the second half where nagbe played centrally with pulisic wide left and fabian at LB.

The three of them wrecked shite all down their side. Dont think theyve all played together again in those spots and it makes my brain hurt. There was instant chemistry and combination play between the 3. Swap pulisic and nagbe and the left side of the formation should be set, imo.

It was also the game where pulisic held off 4 ecuadorians in his own half, inspiring a national boner that has yet to limp.

I'm actually wondering if we can't play a 4-3-3 formation with Nagbe, Jozy/Wood, and Pulisich as the front 3.

Bruce seems hesitant to switch from the 4-4-2 though.

I could also see it more of a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-2-1 if necessary too, just to possibly get one or both of them more central at times. . Anything to get those guys operating in space - though I think Nagbe has a long way to go at the international level in converting his opportunities into actual good chances.

I like Nagbe, and he admittedly is fun to watch and really attacks the other team.
But something inside me always thinks he just dribbles a tad too much.
Idk, maybe it's just me. Good player but just needs to get the ball out of his feet a little more for my liking.

I actually thought Nagbe was way more impressive on the wing in the first half than in the middle in the second. I think the wing gives him more space to beat defenders and get the ball in the box.

Nagbe has been a revelation this tournament. He is clearly a level above the competition. He desperately needs to work on his finishing and distribution in the final third, but his dribbling opens up space and creates opportunities in a way that no others in our pool are capable of, bar maybe Pulisic.

he reminds me a lot of raheem sterling in that regard.

Nagbe's biggest weakness (other than a consistent finish) IMO, and it really is inexplicable is the weight of his passes out wide into the corner for the overlapping run. He CONSISTENTLY under hits them and the player has to wait or even go back to get them. I dont get it.

Love DarDar Binks though.

It's ridiculous that Jurgen didn't bring him in sooner in order to begin his development as an international player. He's just now coming into his own. It could have happened much earlier.

He didn't get US citizenship until December 2015. Jurgen brought him in the next month.

My bad. My memory failed me there. Either way, he never played well under Jurgen for whatever reason. He always looked like he was playing tight and a bit tentative. Looks much more free now and the results are beginning to show.

sterling is pretty bad but this is a reach. There are kids at la masia right now with a better touch than Zardes will ever have. Sterling is talented, he's just panicky

When you look at Zardes that's everything wrong with American youth development

Ehh... I don't think you can point to one particular player and say our youth development failed him personally. That's not fair to guys like Paul Arriola, Darlington Nagbe, Jordan Morris, etc. who maybe didn't have the athletic bodies like Zardes but still flourished stateside.

Does the coaching/training need to improve at our youth level? Hell fricking yes, but every country has a players that didn't fully pan out despite being athletically gifted. Funny thing is, we say that about Zardes but he very well could be heading to Russia in a year.
