Spanish teams still alive in Europe
It speaks volumes about the robust health our football is in. This week’s episode with Juve reminded me of last year’s tie between PSG and Real Madrid. In a similar way, PSG were feared – they were viewed as a powerful, superior force but that didn’t turn to be the case at all. The same’s happened now with Juve; PSG had (and has) a great team but they play in a less challenging league. Both are so far ahead of the rest in their respective leagues that as soon as they are really put to the test or face difficulties, they fall apart. Of course I don’t want to jump the gun and claim the tie is done and dusted, but Juve have an unenviable task ahead of them in the return leg against Atleti.
Elsewhere, Madrid are in a strong position against Ajax, as are Barça in their tie against Olympique Lyonnais. Likewise, Valencia, Villarreal and Sevilla all remain alive and kicking in the Europa League.
Competitive and Diverse League
Up until now, we’ve only lost Betis along the way in Europe, and I didn’t particulraly think they were any worse than Rennes over both legs, but sometimes fate can work against you in football. Some saw it as Setién getting his just reward for his arrogant reaction to losing to Leganés. That’s a shame because Betis play wonderful football and are one of the many teams which form part of and contribute to the great diversity of our domestic league, which runs the gamut of ideas and philosophies from Simeone to Bordalás. That’s the environment which our teams have grown used to working in, and partly explains their constant successes in Europe which, in Real Madrid’s case, has them celebrating today 1,000 days as defending European champions - sorry to have to remind you Guardiola...

La Liga is great if you don't mind watching players role around like they've been shot most of the time.

It kind of is. Barcelona made ref crowding famous. Spanish ref crowding tends to be frequent, but not multitudinous, and pointed. It's not knee jerk, nor a tactic.
I'm appalled at the frequency of ref crowding in the PL, but never say anything. Nobody on this PL frenzied board does, either. It's knee jerk and a tactic (the Barça model).

There are more ref crowdings in one half of a Barca Madrid match than an entire PL season.

It's a big match. The biggest match of the world. Only logical.
Further to what I said, Barça works refs to try to sway the match calls consistently their way, and all others are either trying to right a wrong, avoid it going forward, or in the case of RM, making sure Ramos doesn't see a red card.

For what it’s worth I saw Schalke players crowd the referee for decisions in our midweek match than i’ve Seen any EPL side this season. City weren’t innocent either, the refereeing was not great, but the referee took both captains and told them if it continued cards would be given.
Both sides stopped for the most part following that. I’m sure it’s happened a lot and I’m not tuned in, but I can’t recall another time i’ve seen that this season. It was a Spanish referee as well.

5/10 of the last Europa league winners and 7/10 last Chsmpions league winners were from La Liga. 7/20 of the final participants in Europa final and 9/20 of the last Champions final participants were from La Liga.
It may not be the “best” league but it is easily the most dominate league over the last ten years.

You, like many on this board, confuse mediocrity and parity, to arrive at competitive or best.
Those are the big two worldwide, NOT just in La Liga. It's only logical.
To answer your question, AtM surely won it a few seasons ago. 2015, 2014, something like that.

It's also the most enjoyable to watch. Spanish teams tactics are better, top to bottom. Between 2012 to 2017, English teams were really bad, with most teams unable to string passes together. It's gotten a little better, but La Liga is still the best.

I used to love watching La Liga. When I first got into football La Liga was the league where I was able to watch most of the games (Fox Sports Americas). Hierro and Butragueño for Real or Stoichkov and Romario for Barça (what a forward line btw) Kiko for Atlético. Over the years I got tired of the theatrics. The only reason I put up with the theatrics of the Argentine league is because of my love for Racing. La Liga is probably still the best but with no dog in the fight I'll pass.

they wouldn't be so fresh at the end of the season if they actually played a decent schedule.
