Moyes is absolutely worth pursuing. I would be happy to hear he is a finalist. But he’s going to be the rare Goldilocks exception based on where is he in his life / stepping back from club football entirely

But we’re not successfully convincing a marquee candidate who wants to stay in the game to take a 2 year (potentially if not likely career-derailing) detour when their next club offer is no more than 6 months away

This team needs an edge. Make the call.

I don’t blame Jesse at all for being upset. By many accounts, the job was gonna be his last year, then somebody in the USSF (possibly Crocker) overruled that plan and rescinded the offer. I wouldn’t want to work for people who treated me like that, either. That’s a bridge burned.

So the higher-ups need to get this hire right. If they hire someone like Cherundolo and we fail in 2026, every administrator and board member who approves the failed hire needs to be removed from the USSF forever after the tournament. If they make a good hire, we’ll see how it goes.

There is no accountability within that org.
You’re pipe dreaming.

Yeah and there’s nothing that can be done. The typical non-profit with no shareholders and no accountability for leadership or the useless board that put them there

The can be unaccountable to an extent within the Soccer House amongst themselves, but as fans we can hold them accountable with our wallets and support. There was a ton of turnover after the failure in Couva, although sadly the replacements haven’t been much better than Sunil’s crew.

If they make a lazy hire and frick up our chance to make an impactful run in 2026, I think the outrage from the diehard fans and some of the media would be 10x what we saw this week with Gregg. I would have a hard time getting invested ever again. Let’s hope they make a good hire that gives us no reason to be upset at anyone but the players if 2026 doesn’t go the way we want.

Just from listening to things sounds like Crocker bc he was new got overruled last time. Think he was set to hire Marsch and then all the players pitched for Berhalter to come back and someone made him pivot. Hopefully, if that happened, he gets to make the choice and someone doesn’t force his hand to just hire chrerundolo or Curtin or promote Mikey.

Moyes is way too conservative as a coach

Love what Marsch said

I think Dolo makes a great coach
BUT i just cant see them going to former players back to back. Which may also knock out Perez and Wagner
Radio even talked about Vermes but same situation

I’d be down for an interim Saban tenure before the new coach takes over. He would tear into some of these soft-arse players.

Matt Turner’s misplays with his feet would make him go ballistic.

He’d take one look at Weston, shake his head, and make him run sprints to lose 10 pounds by the end of the day.

I wonder if Crocker will go after Pochettino. To me, Gregggs rehire was on the USSF, whereas Crocker is now allowed to make his own pick this time.

With the USSF willing to "invest" and Crocker going after a "serial winner", I think Pochettino could tick the boxes when it comes to a splash name with a winning history who has managed big clubs. More importantly, he has a history of scouting younger guys in development and getting the most out of them. One other link is that he and Crocker overlapped at Southampton for a year, where Gareth Bale went from the Southampton academy and followed Poch to Tottenham.

Why it wouldn't happen is that Pochettino is still relatively young, and probably doesn't want to go away from managing clubs just yet. Although this players have enjoyed playing for him, he does have a no nonsense history with club organizational leadership. He'd be able to smell the USSF children a mile away and may not have the patience.

Poch is the splash hire the USMNT's needs. Not like he's doing anything else and we're auto qualifiers so he can take his time putting his system in and positioning players where he believes they can find the most success.

Coached in Champions League Semifinals on multiple occasions including CL Final in 2019. Won a Ligue 1 title as well as a French Super Cup. Coached his team to the Carabao Final in year 1 at Chelsea. We could do worse. Much much worse.

Enjoy this JMM goal from October 2001. First time the US took the field after the September 11th attacks.

I mean, that's an easy yes on our end. He has gotten the Spanish team to play above the sum of its parts and do it in an aesthetically pleasing way.

But why the frick would Spain let him leave after this?

Washington Post article states his group contacted Crocker on Friday. But he also signed an extension for his current contract through 2026 last month. Now that they won, my guess he hedged his bets on either if he lost the final, he'd need a new job, or if Spain won, he's looking for a new pay raise. Interesting timing this news gets out right after winning. Smart dude.
