At this point I think it’s essentially proven that Matt Crocker had nothing to do with the decision to retain Berhalter
That degree of incompetence is incompatible with subsequently securing the best women’s coach in the game and getting one of the most successful club managers over the last decade+ to commit to a national team project
Phenomenal

One article stated that he’ll stay based in Europe since most of our players play club there.

Big shout out to Chelsea FC. If they weren’t such a dumpster fire this hire wouldn’t have been possible. The US thanks you for being shite.

I think thats smart! He can go to many games all over Europe where we have US players. And by staying over there most of the time he insulates himself somewhat from some bad soccer minds in our USSF. Less chance of being influenced by US peeps so he can better focus and find best player combo’s.

terrible hire.
While I would also have preferred Tuchel. If we could have got him.
This is not a terrible hire.

Can someone tell me what this guy has won outside of a few Ligue 1 trophies at PSG? Sorry fellas I just don’t get the hype.
Well, I don’t think Sir Alex or Pep were available. Just not sure what it is you guys were hoping for that’s better than this hire.

His achievements at Tottenham were in spite of the complete lack of spending by the club. He squeezed all he could out of them. And to get to the CL Final with that squad was borderline insane. He's known for taxing his players with high workloads but that could also be a byproduct of just not having deep benches like the top few clubs in England. Chelsea were a mess when he took over so it's hard to really gauge him on that. This was a grand slam hire by US Soccer, imo.

Managed espanyol in the Spanish league and saved them from relegation, Southampton in premier league. Then did 5 years at Tottenham got them a couple thirds in the league and a second, and made a champions league final. Has a slightly more open approach to play style as well that I think will suit the players we have pretty well
He managed psg for a couple years but that team has always been a dumpster fire. And was Chelsea manager last year. Started slow but once they got going had a really good second half of the season. Left because ownership had differing views on player recruitment and how they wanted to do things

I think it's a great hire and I think he definitely increases our legitimacy and will likely lead us to winning a couple of games that we are the less talented team in.
However, I still think our player pool isn't good enough to really expect anything beyond what we've been doing lately. We desperately need some new blood to push the established guys.

This may not be the thread to do have this conversation but I do want some opinions of people who know soccer a lot more than I do. I know just enough to be dangerous. But hear me out.
It seems to me that the USMNT has to learn 2 styles of play. In CONCAF teams will bunker and make us break them down. But against top 15 international sides that come out and want possession we would be better off either full on pressing or sitting back and countering with our speed. We can’t compete in the midfield and be an attacking threat with our MMA midfield. It doesn’t bring enough to the attacking 1/3.
Is that even possible to be that flexible? Am I completely wrong here?

The hope is that we make CONCACAF teams adapt to our style of play.

So we are expecting him to live in Messiville, Florida right?

Atlanta... Uncle Arthur gave us land for new soccer training facility.

I was reading on Twitter he may stay in Europe to manage the players during their season(s) there.

this would be considered a home run hire, big name, big jobs, etc
we shall see if it works.

Yeah he’ll still live in Europe. I don’t buy that it’s about staying close to our Euro based players, I think he just wants to stay where he is and that is an easy justification for it. I also don’t think it matters at all where he lives.

Most good teams led by relevant coaches can change their game in order to frustrate take away what another team is good at. I heard someone analyze Pooch at Chelsea and how he was able to get them to break down a low block which is what good teams in the Prem face when they play the lower part of the table.
