I can’t remember a single good game Ream has played for the US.
To be fair he was setup to fail a lot by playing him as a LB in a fair amount of games

Yeah, but in reality he was just a third CB.
It was all part of that shite Gregg tried where the RB would drop into the midfield and the backline would shift over on the ball.
Again, Gregg's tactics in 2019 were an unmitigated disaster. He deserves shite for that, but also deserves credit for not being stubborn like most managers and completely starting over from scratch after the COVID break.

He goes on to name specific players who could earn their way onto the team, including: Zack Steffen, Gaga Slonina, James Sands, Tim Ream, EPB, Matt Miazga, Mark McKenzie, Shaq Moore, Johnny Cardoso, Eryk Williamson, Jordan Pefok, Haji Wright & Brandon Vasquez
Asked about decisions on forwards, Berhalter emphasizes the history Pepi/Sargent have had with the squad and his belief Pepi can dominate the Dutch league/his upside. Says also it might not be about the best forward, but the forward best suited to what you're trying to do.
Gregg emphasizes again, at great length, that this is *not* the final #WorldCup roster. They will continue to monitor players outside of camp. This camp is specifically to assess certain players they want to see.
Gregg saying "if Antonee Robinson can't go or gets injured" is not a comforting phrase, though I appreciate they're trialing backups at LB. Gregg says this is a great opportunity to look at Sam Vines, in particular.
"We're gonna miss Antonee but you know, hopefully he's gonna recover and be back in time for the World Cup". Hopefully??!

When Greggg’s system isn’t working who provides an alternative? How you can leave off Pefok is mind boggling. Swiss golden boot winner, and succeeding in the Bundesliga. Morris going to win us a late goal?
Morris has to be in because Weah is injured, and hopefully Pefok is left off because he’s a lock and gregggg wants one last final look at Pepi, but leaving him off the roster and not in the locker room is inexcusable.

I think Gregg is being too generous to Pepi at the expense of Pefok. We all know Pefok wouldn’t start in his system but god damn if we need a big body for a late goal there is no one better in the pool. The closest comparison is Vasquez, who also got snubbed.

Agreed. This is the arrogance of greggg we’ve seen before coming out again. He feels indebted to Pepi, but he’s young and has time to grow. Pefok has only done what has been asked of him to do, and that’s scoring goals. Goals fit into my system just nicely.

Another possible snub is James Sands. Is he more deserving than Long?

I think that is it, I can't see Morris making the final roster if Weah is healthy. Think that last winger spot comes down to Morris vs Nipples, and Nipples has more versatility.

Maybe? He looked like shite yesterday though.

But Long is not much for his body of work.

Since praising him for his hot start in UCL qualifying he has been bad bad. Rangers as a whole have sucked, so might not be solely his fault. CCV still has been playing well in the SPL and UCL.

I would take Long over Sands, and I hate Long.
I get it, better competition in Champions League, but whether it's been with Rangers, USMNT or NYCFC, I've yet to watch a match with Sands and be like "Yeah, this kid is going to be good."

He was arguably one of the best players on the pitch in the 2 matches against PSV.

Morris is nothing more than a depth piece
Probably and he probably doesn’t go to Qatar. Not just in regards to Morris, but in general I hope we favor youth and potential in any roster toss-ups for this World Cup, which we have no change of winning and should be used as experience for the one we try to win in 2026.

Nope, you take the players that give you the best chance at winning.
There is no way in knowing who will be in the plans for 2026.
Take 2014 for example, we used some of those call-ups on young guys who Jurgen had no interest in playing, unless in emergency.
For example, Mix never played a minute, Julian Green only played once Belgium went up 2-0. Neither really factored into the next cycle or the cycle after that.

Granted, I didn't see those matches and am obviously not saying that he's never put in a good shift. I just don't see the tremendous upside in him that some see.

There are counter examples, but I wasn’t claiming that it always works out better or that it’s the way it must be done, I was talking about what I HOPED. You’re free to want what you want as well.
Besides, I limited it to toss-ups.
Now type a 3 paragraph lecture.

Damn, cry some more
USMNT examples?
Beasley and Donovan in 2002, but Bruce took them because they could help the team then, not give them experience for 06
