This is the worst Italian team since the 60's

This summer's Italian team is pretty weak by their standards.

It's already a down period for proven, quality depth and certainly doesn't bode well that two of Italy's most important players, Marchisio and Verratti, are out of the Euros completely and neither Chiellini nor De Rossi are 100%.

With a full midfield and all three CBs, I'd consider Italy a tougher matchup for France/Germany/Spain and favorites over England due to the spine of their team being where all the world class players are (Bonucci, Barzagli, Chiellini, Marchisio, De Rossi, Verratti). .

If a few of those six are out of the lineup, I don't think Italy can contend very easily with the top teams and don't think they would control the dynamic of a potential match with England as easily as in recent encounters. England's pressure would likely win more balls to counter quickly and I'd probably consider them favorites.

Maybe I'm not watching enough of the current group of younger English players but tend to take a wait and see approach (like I do with all the similar young Italians).

It's a generational type deal

Ireland is really feeling it, as the Rugby and even the local rugby leagues are more popular. Was reading an article on how when u see kids wearing kits, it's not soccer, it's from the rugby leagues. There is a fear, that it could crush their talent pool for decades. It was thin as it is.

Kids are playing and doing other things in some countries. Hell, i laugh at them, but Professional gaming draws kids away from playing sports, and in Europe, you have much more games that have tourneys(especially ww2 based, europeans, especially eastern love them some WW2 games)

I think England is a legit threat to win Euro. Should at least make the semis with France, Germany & Spain.

England U21s win the Toulon Tournament

1 day later:
England has no talent

I think England is about to go into another golden era(last one wins 02 WC IMO without ye freak goal and Shearer retiring in '00) with people like Alli, Kane at the forefront of it.

It's a real problem. I blame my obesity on competitive madden entirely. Legislators need to ban competitive gaming so that kids stop wasting their lives and getting fat as opposed to playing traditional sports like the good lord intended.

There's plenty of talent there but Hodgson's style doesn't help.

Agreed. But I think De Rossi could easily be filled in by Motta and they'd be alright. Missing a true number 10 like Veratti or Pirlo is what I think will hurt them the most. Is Marchisio going to be that guy? I know replacing Pirlo is near impossible, but who will give them that creative or final pass? If their strikers show up (ZaZa or El Shaawary will have to stand out) their center backs and holding mids will be what keeps them in games. I actually think Italy will do really well in the Euro. They have a pretty easy path to the quarters.
