The fact we kept putting Rapinoe in for her "service" when we are not scoring any goals (except against much inferior opponent in game 1) is pathetic management. The fact that she even made the roster (her being slow/declining didn't just start at the WC) tells you exactly why she made the roster and that the coach had no balls to make the right decision.

I didn't bring it into women's soccer. Blame Rapinoe.

If you had to choose one of the following for your child/daughter to be inspired by, would it be Marta or Rapinoe? That's what I thought.

Yeah, you definitely didn’t bring up teachers having inappropriate relations with 5 year olds in a thread regarding the Women’s World Cup. That was somehow Megan Rapinoe.

Let's stop with the "the gap has closed" between us and the rest of the world. It closed after the 1999 WWC. We didn't win it in 2003, 2007, 2011, or 1995 for that matter. This was down to coaching plane and simple. We scored 4 goals all tournament and 3 were against Vietnam in the first match. We will always have the players to win it but we need a coach to put them in position to win.

In 2011, we would have been out in the quarters had it not been for the miracle pass from Rapinoe to Wambach.

There is just significantly more depth in women’s soccer now. Canada, Brazil, and Germany went out before the Knockout stage.

More time practicing penalties.

There isn’t a gap now

The countries with proven systems actually invest in the game now

She shouldn’t have been on the team. But if they wanted to bring her for the media circus, that’s fine as long as she doesn’t play.

But for whatever reason she did play. She used to be good. She’s not anymore and it is a real shame that’s how she’s going to be remembered by a lot of people.

Hey, didn't Beckham lose a game for England once by airmailing a PK? For some reason I remember you being mad about it and calling him an f'n metrosexual.

That's the price she pays for being too selfish in taking up a roster spot rather than allowing another to help contribute. The coach knew she wasn't what she has been and kept her b/c he had to- she didn't just get old and slow at the WC. She was dreadful every minute she played meaningful minutes. Why do you think she announced retirement before the WC rather than after? It's always going to be about her.

It is not on her to pass up the roster spot. That is on the people that select the team. Almost all the best athletes, especially those that have been great at some point in time believe in their abilities, even sometimes for a little bit too long. That's why there are coaches, managers, etc. that exist though, who pick the team. Again, I was fine bringing her. Playing her was a whole different thing. I honestly think the same thing applies to Alex Morgan a little (not to the same extent). She was bad, but if the coach keeps putting her out there, that's on the coach.

Because we all know that Megan Rapinoe would have accepted that decision with grace and dignity and not gone on a media tour calling the coach a sexist racist transphobic pig. When do the men get their money back?

How about it is on both her and the coach? Let's be real...She's become bigger than even the coach of that team and the only person that would cut her from the roster is herself.

I wonder if she’s distantly related to Wayne Rooney. Talk about a hothead moment.
