While it’s good we are getting this kid

We should be past the point of getting excited over Englands scraps bc he didn’t get call ups

He flirted with us then went back to England as a youth player

It’s not like a Musah we’re we had a chance even though he was being developed by England

Or like Robinson who was always in our setup

This kids camp basically called out Southgate

We have a long way to go developing talent domestically

Balogun and Musah are hardly “scraps.” No need to be a wet blanket. Just enjoy it brah.

I never said Musah was

Balogun is basically getting discarded by England bc he doesn’t play in the Prem

Southgate sees him as surplus

Their loss

He’s quality. Stupid to ignore a player because he’s Continental. Especially one that young who scores like he does.

That’s really shitty. Especially for Leeds. What’s the injury?

The Balogun thing isn't a done deal yet, so I'm trying not to get too excited, but there's obviously tons of hot hot smoke. Someone please tell me I shouldn't be worried that this just Balogun trying to make England jealous.

he’s 100% trying to make England jealous. and it will probably guarantee he wears our crest. intent doesn’t equal outcome. he’s going to wear the stars and stripes, and bang in goals. if we say it enough, it’ll happen

I think we have to get it done now if we get it done, because the longer he waits, the better chance that England finds a place for him if he continues to kill it in Ligue 1 and eventually Arsenal or somewhere else in Britain.

He definitely wants England to want him and a part of this whole trip to Orlando felt kinda gross like he was using us to make England jealous. I’m fine with that if he ends up with us, but part of this weekend felt like a tactical move by him.

I think the US needs to try to get him to play in Vegas this summer. I wish there was one friendly before the Nations League final round but oh well.

I suspect the Gold Cup will be a B team again, right?

We have a friendly next month against Mexico, but that's not a FIFA international date.

No idea, technically this is supposed to be the A-team Gold Cup year, but with Nations League being a thing now, I'm not sure how we will approach it.

Gold cup starts the week after Nations League.

With the winter World Cup, I don’t see how you keep the main guys for a tournament after Nations League.

I suspect this is a final residual effect of the winter World Cup as well as rescheduling during Covid.

Then the USMNT will have the March 2024 Nations League final, 2024 Copa America, and 2025 Gold Cup (I suspect this will be the A team) to prep for the World Cup.

I like that it gets our players more games outside of WC to play together

It’s on international dates, so we would playing those days anyway. I’d just rather we play CONMEBOL or AFC friendlies than playing El Salvador for a 4th time since 2021.

With Europe having both Nations League and Euros it hurts our ability to schedule nations to play friendlies with if we didn't have our own Nations League. We have to play too many Confederation minnows.

The new format allows us to skip this group play bullshite and play more South American teams in these windows and hopefully more Copa Americas

quote:

The size of League A will be increased from twelve to sixteen teams, and will now feature a quarter-final round. The twelve lowest-ranked teams in the CONCACAF Rankings of March 2023 will enter the group stage, now using a Swiss-system tournament format. The teams will be divided into two groups of six teams, with each team playing four matches against group opponents (two at home and two away). The top four teams will advance to the quarter-finals, and will be joined by the four top-ranked teams in the CONCACAF Rankings. The teams advancing from the group stage will be drawn into ties against the top-ranked teams, which will be played on a two-legged home-and-away basis.

Valid point. I did not think of this.

I notice African cup of nations qualifying is going on right now also.

Would have been cool to play German since they are not in qualifying as host. I see their playing friendlies. They just lost to Belgium

Or Argentina as WC champion. They just played curaqoa

Teams playing friendlies today. That I’d rather play than el Salvador and Grenada. Iran equador Australia
Japan Columbia. Korea Uruguay. Germany Morocco Belgium Peru Argentina
Dream a little dream.

But yea if we can schedule better competition than concacaf teams again. I’m in
