Alex Freeman to Villareal

Sad to see him go, but I think he can crush it in La Liga.

Also apparently the starting RB at Villarreal got hurt, so should be able to play right away.

Does Villareal play 3-back or 4?

I really think Freeman's future can see him come borderline elite (by American standards) as a outside CB in a back 3 like where Poch played him last camp. He has the size and physicality, but has shown the ability to be calm on the ball and either dribble or play the correct pass.

I worry that he is just too big to be a full-time RB.

I just looked up about 8 or so matches they appear to play 4-4-2 almost exclusively. They also have a problem as a team getting red cards. In almost all the games they were playing a man down.

I’m old enough to remember when we had elite goalkeepers starting in the EPL.

Just finished watching Lyon/Lille. Tessman was really good. His work rate was excellent.

I find that he’s more agile/technical than one would think. And his cross field balls are incredible.

Agree. His weakness is speed of thought. If he could process everything just a bit quicker, it would take him to the next level.

I'm old enough to remember when all we HAD in the top flight of English football were outstanding goalkeepers and Johnny Harkes.

Fulham have been chasing Ricardo Pepi since the summer. PSV has really screwed Fulham with this.
According to Tactical Manager, the agreed price was E37,000,000 for a guy who has never scored 20 goals in a season. Certainly injury and managerial prerogative have kept his games-played down. But that'd be Fulham's 3rd highest ever transfer.

PSV can bite my arse.

Don't get me wrong, Pepi needs to get out of PSV, but with the injury, I think Fulham would be a terrible move for him in the short term if he has hopes of making the World Cup roster.

Poch is already kinda down on him and, upon his return from injury, I highly doubt Fulham would end its season by giving him a lot of minutes over Jimenez.

Jimenez needs a break. With Muniz still out, no one else fits the role.

I remember subscribing to Soccer America so I can get any news about the sport. They had a section that covered "rest of the world" and one issue they spoke about this Brazilian with PSV tearing up the Eredivisie named Ronaldo. I went buy a satellite because I couldn't take 2 week old news any longer

I did that, as well.
I used to go to the Lakeside News, next door to the Metairie location of Morning Call. They had magazines from England and Italy, and I'd buy them almost religiously every couple weeks. Shoot, 90 Minutes, World Soccer, 4-4-2, Guerin Sportivo
At the time I was teaching at my old Catholic School in greater New Orleans, and would put up the posters included in the magazines in my library. The kids loved it.
