The wife and I went to the Halcyon Beach location on St Lucia for our honeymoon and had a freaking blast!

All the food and drinks you could want, hammocks and things to lay on and just enjoy the weather (around the 80's every day). At night they have a bunch of firepits going, the breeze coming in makes being around those perfect.

We went zip-lining (23-line course) and scuba diving through 3rd party vendors who contract with them. They have small catamarans so my wife impressed me with her sailing, she had never been on a jet ski so we rented one from a vendor and I scared the shite out of her with it ;)

We'll go back again someday.

I've been to a Sandals in Jamaica. I liked it ok, but would not do it again. You can take a lot better trips for the money. The food was mediocre, the drinks were weak and I got tired of being in one place basically. And as you mentioned, it was not cheap.

We went to one of the Sandals on St Lucia 26 years ago on our honeymoon. This location had a huge open air dining room with walk up steps from the pool. Had a little villa on the side of a mountain with a private lounge pool. Second trip up the hill for the guy to come get more beer out of the in room liquor closest, he decided to leave it unlocked.

We loved it but have not been back. Kids and shite!

I'm not usually an all-inclusive person and haven't been to a Sandals or Beaches, but I did like the Hyatt Ziva/Zilara in Montego Bay.

My wife used to work for Hyatt corporate and got 12 free nights/year, with the caveat that it could only be 3 nights at any one property per calendar year. Since the adults only (Zilara) and all ages (Ziva) sides of the resort were technically different properties, we were able to do a six night all-inclusive vacation in Jamaica for the price of tax and airfare, just had to switch rooms halfway through.

Those perks were killer.

went to one about 10 years ago. wife and i enjoyed it. food was ok nothing to right home about and enough activities to not get bored. little aggravating to have a ton of people around some times but overall it was a good stay.

Anyone has any experience staying at any of the Sandals/Beaches Caribbean resorts? or perhaps a friend or family member who has gone?

Just got back from Sandals Negril in Jamaica. Is that the one you are checking out? I believe they have 3 on the island.

The one I stayed at in Antigua had people trying to sell those cheap trinkets up and down the beach.

The trinkets are just their opening pitch. The really want you to ask about that cocaine.

The people can definitely be the worst part.

I'm a fair skinned dude and went to Jamaica in April. Started putting on some sunscreen before hopping into the pool and some random jerkoff yelled "I HOPE THAT'S SPF 1000"

Went several times to different areas but all to the excellence resorts. Adult only, all inclusive. Pay a little extra for vip to get a butler and the good booze.

We did Sandals in The Bahamas for our honeymoon about 20 years ago. Not sure if do it again, but it was fine for a honeymoon.

If you’re a beer drinker, prepare yourself for Corona or the local beer, Kalik I think it was called. That’s all they had. Tip the bartenders if you want the good booze in your mixed drinks. Make dinner reservations early each day because they fill up fast. The excursions were a ripoff. Get off the property at least one day and experience some local flavor. Bahamian people are awesome if you end up there.

My info may be dated. Sandals is kind of trashy, but it fills a need. It was nice not having to worry about carrying a credit card everywhere, and not having a heart attack over the bill at checkout. Food was average, the pool bar gets insanely crowded and the same people monopolize it every day, and after a few days you get sick of seeing the same people, but we didn’t have a problem finding our own space to relax.

I think you can get way more bang for your buck looking elsewhere. Look into Sunset at the palms in negril, Jamaica. It’s adults only/all inclusive and a fantastic place. You can bundle it (or something else) with flights thru Expedia and come out thousands cheaper than doing Sandals.

Have stayed at Sandals in Negril in Jamaica. We had a good time. We had a room that you could swim up to the back porch. We had 4-5 bottles rum, scotch and some others in our room. Plenty of Red Stripe beer to drink, don't think they had any other beer that I remember. We also had the butler service. He would have breakfast and coffee on our back porch each morning. I had a small cooler that would take to the beach with red stripe that he would come by and get it an fill it back up with beer and ice. This resort had 4-5 restaurants and you had to make a reservation for dinner . The butler would handle all this a reserve nicer seats in the restaurants. The butler isn't necessary but it was nice to have. This was 5 years ago. Would like to go back someday.

I'd suggest looking at other resorts in the all inclusive category. Normally you can get better deals at newer/nicer places than Sandals.

Excellence resorts (also Finest), Iberostar, Secrets - those are some really nice places that will be a decent amount cheaper but will ultimately be better than a Sandals. They all have resorts all over the Caribbean. My wife and I went to Excellence El Carmen in the Dominican Republic this summer. It was fantastic. Highly recommended.

Fwiw, I loved the one in Nassau.

I’ve been to their resorts in Barbados, St. Lucia, MBJ, and Ochi.

I think they’re fricking awesome but we also take many other trips throughout the year that we are constantly exploring etc, so I love to go to sandals and not have to think about a thing. Butler service is definitely worth it.

The crowd at the resort will depend on where you’re at. Some are cheaper than others and the crowd reflects that. Barbados was really fricking nice but also really new. They’re opening a new one in Curaçao next year I would like to check out.
