Where do folks like to hang out these days? I keep hearing LA folks talk about how bad NO has gotten. I’d like to enjoy next weekend down there. Being told French quarter isn’t that great anymore and not ideal during gay pride weekend. Just looking to enjoy some bars/restaurants/culture

Do what you want. If something is gonna happen, it’s gonna happen. Like any city. Use common sense. Avoid Bourbon/Canal and Canal in general. Wouldn’t walk long distances at night. Uptown, Midcity, and Algiers Point are where I usually go. Uber and Lyft are easy to get around with.

North of Lake Pontchartrain or west of the 17th Street Canal.

Stay in the Warehouse District or uptown. Plenty of fun bars all over those areas and further out to enjoy.
It’s gotten too hot to enjoy the outdoor stuff as much but I’m sure you will have fun

We are going to the Saenger for Hamilton in a few weeks and parking in the Roosevelt Garage and walking to the Saenger. It's a night time show. You mentioned Canal street being unsafe. Is that the part of canal that's having issues?

We do this when going to the Saenger or for drinks at the Roosevelt. The garage is well lit and I’ve never worried about walking next door or across the street for a show.

Uptown or warehouse district. Uber doorstep to doorstep if you do dinner in the Quarter.

I wouldn’t hang around Canal and Rampart at 2am but when an event is going on at the Saenger it is fine. Well lit, crowded and policed.

We spent this past weekend in New Orleans. We started in Midcity and it was fine. A few good bars around, plenty of eats, fairly quiet.

I'd stay uptown at Indigo, Hampton, or the Pontch. Focus your weekend in uptown and river bend. If you want some nightlife or music go to Frenchman. French Quarter before 10pm only, things are getting a bit wild.

If you're driving your own car, be aware of your surroundings.

Canal Street and a lot of the French Quarter are now a cesspool. The mayor should be ashamed.
