Sucks for your good friends but everyone knows that the Caymans have insane restrictions right now.
And someone who travels there as much as they did before COVID, should especially know this.
I looked into going to the Caymans over the Holidays and after about 30 seconds of reading their COVID protocols, it was quickly removed off the list.

I am not going anywhere outside America until every restriction is done. If that never happens so be it
We have plenty of unreal places to hit these next few years we have never been
Yellowstone/Tetons
Cape cod
Bend
That’s our plan for the next three years

Yeah I feel the same.
I deal with COVID crap everyday and even being in a airport or on a plane annoys me.

My plan is similar. I would never risk spending a week sitting in a hotel in a foreign country, not being able to see or do anything, and paying a lot of money for that privilege.

Just got back from Cozumel, and They're open for business:
*No test to fly there
*Resort gave us a COVID test day before we left (Per
Brandon's requirements)
*Resort offered COVID insurance for $6/day that would cover an additional 14 day stay - of course jumped on this.
*They were strict about masking when you went into stores and restaurants in town, but never had anyone bother me about it in the resort (you're outside the whole time, why would they?)
*Super easy to fly out and get back home

Mexico just started adding additional COVID restrictions. It looks like it is going to be based on your specific location. If you are planning a trip, make sure you do your research.

the authorities slapped felon bracelets on everyone that was in the vicinity (about 20 people), gave them a shitty android phone that would go off if they attempted to go outside
I feel like this needs to be fact checked
Can't go outside??

This really soured me on wanting to travel anywhere
Just don’t travel places that require you…

So one of the requirements apparently is freaking daily testing while there along with all these tests they had to take here in the US right up until the plane actually was in the air

Exactly. I don't think there's anything wrong with traveling internationally, but you don't want to go somewhere the authorities are nuts and the citizens are drinking the koolaid.
I also wouldn't go to a big city where there are eyes everywhere.
I have a hard time believing if they rented a nice house in the Caymans with a pool and grounds they couldn't have been outside. It would be far from a perfect vacation, but there's plenty of places in even the UK and what not where the locals are more lax then the authorities.

Traveling internationally right now is just too risky. Mostly because of the USA re-entry rules. Who wants to burn PTO in quarantine in a foreign country

Grand Cayman is another story. The only place I’d travel internationally is Mexico right now. I’ve had a bunch of friends go to Cabo and Rivera maya, and from what they’ve told me, Mexico basically just gives you a negative test without testing you, because they don’t you want staying there if you’re positive. I had some friends get back from there just this weekend, and they told me they were in line with like 50 people, and the properties just handed papers that said they were negative without a test.

Are the Abbott self tests still valid for re-entry into US? That’s what we used last December. Best part about those is if you test positive, the local agency doesn’t know. Just extend your trip until test negative.

quote:I was in DR last week and it was similar. No test inbound and the resort provided a test outbound. They had isolation suites that were complimentary up to 10 days if you tested positive. They clearly didn't want to have to do that though, cause the test they gave was a total sham; briefly stuck a swab in, put a quick drop on the test card, said it was negative and sent us on our way with the paperwork.

Aside from having to do the verifly stuff coming back, which wasn't bad, it was all super easy and quick. I have Global Entry and it was in and out at US Customs.
Honestly, the only bad part was that I got randomly selected for additional security screening leaving Punta Cana and wasn't able to retrieve my boarding pass in app.

We must have been there at the same time. We did a long weekend Thursday 1/13 - Monday 1/17. Very easy trip.
