Heading Back to NOLA for Thanksgiving (Christmas stuff).

It's been a minute since I've done Christmas stuff back home, so any suggestion would be welcomed.
Wife, kid (15 y/o daughter - no pics), and I will be there from Wednesday to Saturday morning the week of Thanksgiving (then headed to OU/LSU).
Staying at The Roosevelt, so I know they have a few things - lobby decorations and Teddy Bear Tea - is that too young for a 15 y/o?
Will hit Christmas in The Oaks.
What else would you recommend?

Bad idea. Thanksgiving weekend is Bayou Classic.
Christmas in the Oaks is fine. But don't go anywhere near the French Quarter.

We wouldn't be hanging out in the Quarter regardless...
Prolly hit Cafe Du Monde early Friday, maybe walk around a little, and then do some other events.
Otherwise, I can't do anything about dates - Thanksgiving is when it is.

Yeah I wouldn't worry about the classic being in town at all. It's not such a big event these days, and other than Bourbon or near the dome, it's easy to avoid the crowd.
Rummel, just double check the timing for when the events kick off for the two Christmas events start.
Consider just spending a half day at City Park starting with Cafe Du Monde out there instead of the dowtown location. it's a much better experience.
There is also the mini golf course, paddle boats, bikes, etc.
You will of course enjoy the little amusement park while you are at Celebration in the Oaks.

Maybe you're just trolling, but if you want to bring your wife and 15 year old daughter to that disaster, that's on you.

Your hotel will be beautifully decorated for Christmas. The Sazerac Bar is very nice and Dominica is a good restaurant, especially for the pizza and wine happy hour.
Your 15 year old will be too old for the Teddy Bear Tea. That is for little kids. If you want a nice afternoon tea, go across Canal Street to the Ritz Carlton. Or the Windsor Court, but you can walk to the Ritz.
The restaurants may be serving the Revellion menus then. Check them out. The Pelican Club always has a good one.

Thanks, I always forget about that.

There are tons of people in town that week outside of the Bayou Classic, you will be fine going anywhere you want to go in the City and Quarter outside of Bourbon Street Friday and Saturday night.
Bring some nice clothes and go to the racetrack Thursday late morning. Its one of the best days of the racing season and great people watching.

Daughter is definitely too old for teddy bear tea. That event in general will give your wallet aids and your stomach a norovirus.
Thanksgiving morning in city park is the turkey trot road race. It’s a fun way to start thanksgiving running the race and then going to get beignets in the park when you are finished.
The best thing your 15 year old will like are shows. Would check to see what is playing at the saenger, Orpheum, petite theater, or at Tulane/loyola.
Go to preservation hall and pay to sit in the front.
I usually keep my valuables in a suppository when walking in the quarter.

The link I’m quoting and posting is from 2023. Personally, I stay away from the CBD that weekend. Got caught down there years ago, all unsuspecting. Being the only white face in a crowd of people, even an extremely well-behaved crowd, will put you on edge.
“According to city officials, throughout the weekend of the Bayou Classic, “the French Quarter Exterior and Interior Closure will be enhanced.”
That means that on both Friday and Saturday, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m., all streets leading into the French Quarter from Canal Street, Decatur Street, North Rampart Street and Dumaine Street will be closed to vehicular traffic. Only residents, hotel guests, taxis and limousines will be allowed to enter.
On the interior side, all streets leading to Bourbon Street at Royal Street and Dauphine Street will be closed to vehicles.”

Are you trolling, or what?
Canal St. has a tendency to turn into a parking lot on that weekend, as kids and alumni cruise the downtown like they’re at the lakefront. Years ago, a friend’s high school class scheduled their reunion in the FQ that weekend. It was a disaster. No one could get in or out. And this was long before the city instituted the road closures and parking restrictions. Steer clear, or rue the day.

Thanks, but we leave early Saturday for BR and will have dinner Uptown Friday night, so hopefully the traffic won't be too bad getting back to the hotel Friday night, but I do appreciate the link for road closures.

I would hotel hop with the kids and enjoy all the Christmas decorations in the lobby of each hotel. Pick four or five that are walkable and have a cocktail any each one. Makes for a fun day.

I’ll be grilling ribs and turkey necks in my room at the Hilton Riverside if y’all want to stop by.
