First time in downtown San Antonio, not gonna lie I'ma little under whelmed, area around the Alamodome is kinda ghetto, I walked right by the Alamo itself and didn't even know until my kids told me we where there, I do like the small town feel and the old Texas architecture downtown, San Antonio zoo was awesome, and the tower of the Americas was pretty cool too. Overall the city is great but the city just feels like an old Texas town stretched out for miles. Dallas and Houston actually look and feel like big cities, downtown areas with towers everywhere, even Austins downtown area is booming, It really feels like you could drive through San Antonio, and not even know, which is crazy because San Antonio is one of the top 10 biggest cities in the US.

Its nothing special. Its nothing more than a tourist attraction between a bunch of buildings.

No it’s not. It’s not small but its metro area is 24th in the US

Go to On the Rocks Pub right off the Riverwalk. It's somewhat hidden in the "basement" under the McDonald's at Losoya and Commerce Street.

Grab some iron cactus or boudros on river walk tonight. Check out natural bridge caverns. Take a short drive over to new braunfels and float the guadelupe from the lone star float house and grab a burger from there when you’re done. Or eat dinner at gristmill over there. That’s my favorite part of Texas. As far as drivable trips from Louisiana it’s def near the top for me.

As you can probably tell by looking around there isn't all that much to do downtown other than eat & drink. Mi Tierra is worth a visit and it's downtown. Pearl Brewery complex has some good food and it's not far. Some good bbq places but you'll have to drive/uber.
Water levels are better than last year for tubing. Probably pretty crowded with the heat.

You kind of described how I feel about San Antonio. Driving through the city, it looks like “ghetto” (for lack of a better term) all around. But they are a big enough city where they have many attractions, so that always makes San Antonio worth the trip.
I felt the same way about the Alamo when I first saw it as a kid. Highly disappointed that it’s surrounded by a concrete city. But once you realize that, it’s still a cool place to see due to the history.
Like others have said, the surrounding area is awesome. There’s a rodeo outside the city, I’ve never been but wanted to go.

Tejas Rodeo. It's in Bulverde up 281.
Nice spot with good food and the rodeo show included.

Get in a car and drive to Fredericksburg or New Braunfels for the day.
