It used to be a great base camp to explore other places for cheap. Now with costs rising considerably, I rather just stay closer to the places I want to visit in the area. I extremely dislike Vegas the city portion. I love visiting the surrounding natural areas.

City is overrated, the nature surrounding it is awesome.

I used to go 4-5 times a year.... Could get Mirage for $50 a night or Bellagio for $90ish.

Since Covid, I've been 2 times, maybe 3 and like I said, its trashy as shite and expensive as F.

If you go to Vegas and stay on the strip, but don't

like gambling, drinking, music, food, weed, sluts, etc.

then you will most likely determine it is overrated. If you go there for the shows and entertainment, you may find it appropriate. If you venture off of the strip and see everything else that area/State has to offer, you may even consider going back...just not on the strip

Yeah, I went for my 21st birthday, and I enjoyed it.

Vegas has all of the things I prioritize when traveling: top notch food, plenty of places to drink, shopping, gorgeous hotels, electronic music everywhere, and a really good pool scene for daytime fun.

However - a large number of large cities in warm climates offer the exact same things without having to deal with the cons of Vegas.

I would go again for sure, but it isn't in any sort of vacation plans for the foreseeable future.

Vegas is what you make of it. You can go cheaply or you can live it up. And still have a hell of a time doing it. If you go in with a bad attitude, or expecting it to be “overrated”, you are probably going to have a mediocre time. I just got here this afternoon and as of about 7 pm local time, it is VERY busy. On a Wednesday night. Granted, it’s the last night of World of Concrete and the first night of AVN—two of the largest conventions of the year.

I just got a $75 ticket to see Blake Shelton @ the Colosseum. Going to see Santana on Saturday. Gonna be eating Denny’s and Subway and places like that. Drinking at Ellis Island and Stage Door. Still gonna have a great time.

It’s certainly both. Everyone should go at least once. It’s worth seeing but not everyone’s cup of tea.

These posts pop up every couple months. Then most people chime in who clearly only ever have gone to drink/gamble on the Strip. For OP, it has everything you could want. Outdoors: Red Rock, Valley of Fire, Mt Charleston, Lake Mead. World Class food and entertainment. Sports abound. Nicer casinos with better customer service at Durango or Red Rock, go explore a little. It is a great town and region.

100%.

Best part about Vegas for me was the Grand Canyon trip we took. Everything else sucked.

I've been 3 times and enjoyed every trip. In fact I'm about to book my 4th trip for the end of March to see The Wizard of Oz and The Eagles at The Sphere.

I don't gamble. There are plenty of things to enjoy in and around Vegas. We're probably going to rent a car and drive to the Grand Canyon (4.5 hours) one day this time.

We flew out there a few years ago and drove to Death Valley one day and spent the day. Two days later we drove to Zion National Park for the day.

Only negative to me is the cost, but there is no such thing as a cheap vacation.
