Was that really the first pitch or were they just on field messing around? Usually you throw first pitch to somebody on the team. Also the stadium was damn near empty.

It was the first pitch. Stadium was empty because it was an afternoon game on a Thursday against the Oakland A’s. Travel day games typically have lower attendance.
