The publicity is turning him into the same god like figure Saban was when he came Back to bama from Dolphins. The hype and publicity made him much bigger than when he left LSU. That same scenario is coming with lane, but lane will embrace it with his personality and make the brand even bigger and fan base more excited. LSU-Kiffin could literally become a yearly powerhouse if he keeps his focus off the south La tail!

Why would USC have buyers remorse?
The team was terrible and had been terrible for years. He almost has them in the playoffs without a 1st round draft pick at QB

What sports allocate 35-40%. of their spend to a Head Coach?

A sport where the players can only play 3-4 years?

I think USC has buyers remorse at this point. And I think anyone giving $90 million to Lane Kiffin will as well.

I understand he struggled for 3 seasons, but he has a legit shot a a playoff birth this year. He’s done a pretty solid job changing his approach and getting that defense turned around.

I don’t understand paying this amount of money for a coach when it’s clear that college football is moving to the NFL model with coaches being fired after 2-3 years if they can’t win. College football is now “win now”. No program building.

What coach worth hiring is going to accept an offer of a 3 year contract? Like I don’t completely disagree but the Jimmy Sextons of the world have made it basically impossible to actually negotiate contracts that actually make sense from a practical standpoint

Because nobody wants to pay premium dollars for Brian Kelly level LSU results

No he doesn’t.They will get blown out today and have 3 losses, one of which was to Illinois. They aren’t making a playoff.

The USC brand + Riley and he’s done nothing there

I think Lane Kiffin is an excellent coach but I don't think the return on investment in a HC is what it once was. I think the Coach O model of paying a HC well to be an excellence recruiter and face of the program while rotating out really well paid coordinators every few years and spending big on NIL players is a better long-term strategy.

I think you're more likely to hold on to an HC longer that way and maintain some level of stability while always being able to afford the best coordinators and players. I'd take a strong character tier 2 coach with the best players and coordinators any day of the week.

In order to win championships, you have to make the playoffs

1. Because coaching still matters. So you may not have time to build a program but you still need to coach the players when they show up.

2. While Kiffin has been successful in the portal and rebuilding teams year after year. He’s had success across 3 different QBs now.

I think you’re underestimating how much coaches are going to start getting paid moving forward. He won’t be the highest paid coach for long.

Because every NFL team has an owner and the GM is responsible to the owner.
While in college football, the AD is spending other people's money as much as he can get.

The big difference is that Riley didn't do his thing publicly. There were many here pumping him coming to LSU, but nobody was pumping him to USC.
