By his 2nd year at Iowa State he had wins over #3 and #4
Campbell looks like the better Matt and I'm not that high on him either.

Campbell had 2 wins against ranked teams at Toledo, including Rhule's Temple in a bowl.
He's also 8-13 against ranked teams at Iowa State.
I think both would be fantastic hires for LSU. Both have been great program builders at tough jobs.
For some reason though, only Rhule is considered a home run here, while reaction to Campbell is mixed to lukewarm. Doesn't make a ton of sense.
ETA: I must've counted wrong on his Iowa State record, but it's still pretty damn good for Iowa State. And better than 0-fer.
