Maybe, but it wasn’t guaranteed. That said, Oklahoma State’s ceiling is a perennial playoff team from the Big 12. He could do worse.

Utah
Arizona State
Arizona
BYU
Cincinnati
TCU
All are definitively better programs than Oklahoma State. And personally I think Houston/Kansas State/Iowa State and maybe UCF are better. In what is going to be a 1 or 2 bid league.

Some real giants there to slay.
And did you begin following college football last year? During most of Gundy’s tenure they were in the upper half of the Big 12 with OU and UT in the conference. Eight 10+ win seasons. Three major bowl appearances with two wins. Two top 10 finishes with a No. 3 finish in 2011 when they were NC contenders.

They’re in Stillwater Oklahoma, have not great facilities for the Power 4, and don’t spend at a high level compared even to their conference. Please fill me in on how they’ll be a perennial contender in the Big 12
